Also, I am not sure if anyone caught Elliot Friedman’s report about the home run target the Jets were going for at the deadline. It was not Josh Manson as everyone on here was speaking about, rather it was Vladislav Gavrikov from Columbus. He is signed for 2 more years after this.
Bet the price for him was rather high. |

It’s all good, I’ve met Rexy. He is a very good guy. I enjoy disagreeing and going back and forth with him. - Ross77
I get a kick out of our exchanges. I consider his views very outlandish, but acknowledge his love of the Jets, and he is a gentleman in all our disagreements. If he thinks Demelo is the current best D, and Enstrom was the jets GOAT, just let him have his opinions. Maybe the Jets can land a true 1D, and put the Jets D debate to rest. Maybe.... |

I too heard this, but was fairly certain Friedman said it was a discussion with Nashville which was pulled after their recent success. Friedman said it was not for Ekholm, but did seem to elude towards Ellis. That was my interpretation. Gavrikov and his 0.17ppg certainly can't be the "massive" deal that Friedman was referring too. Maybe it was discussed, but it wasn't to big move that Chevy almost made.
Nobody should be interested in trading with the Jackets. They won every deadline deal they made by a landslide. |

I won’t be giving Copp 5 mil, no chance. He may think he is worth this, but he is not.
I’m not resigning both Thompson and Lewis, and I’d give perreault another year over both of them. - Ross77
Copp is a tough call. If he's pencilled in for top-6, then he's probably near the $5M. If not, then he's probably closer to $4M.
But right now, he looks like a top sixer in 21/22. He is also a player who could be included in a deal to upgrade the blue-line. Somewhat of a wild card right now. But certainly has exceeded expectations in 2021. |

One thing that I even underrated about Copp is his ability to make players around him better. I think that alone should increase his value. It appears that whoever he plays with him gets better. This is not something I can say about Lowry. |

Think, if he gets the contract he can live with, that Copp signs long-term in Wpg? Or will the Jets want a shorter term contract? |

I guess you’d be over paying guys like Darnell Nurse as well then right? Based on “this year”? Don’t be fooled by one year.
Prior to this year, he was a 10 goal 25 point guy. He will be 27 next year, it is very likely, this will be his best year!! Be careful. - Ross77
No. Because Nurse is a fairly average bottom pairing guy getting his numbers jacked by the dynamic duo.
Copp has always screamed “can do a lot more”, and now he is. Nothing has changed but his opportunities |

That’s what you said going into this year. - Ross77
And we’ve been a very bad hockey team carried by shooting talent and goaltending this year.
We have been incredibly lucky. Goalies are voodoo. Rely on them for nothing. |

Enstrom is the NHL* GOAT.
Also, we already have Heinola. He is that 1D we need |

Copp’s number have jumped when given more ice time with Winnipeg’s elite finishers. Without line-mantes with elite finishing the xgoals does not equate to actual goals. |

You use good luck and bad luck a lot. If they mean this much, why spend so much time of stats that can not account for it? |

I am not sure what is being asked. I think I would like to have Copp here long-term, however if we feel that guys like Vesalainen, Harkins and Appleton have the same ability as Copp, then I am okay with it being a short term contract. I think that’s what you were asking.

Rexypoo is not really a stats guy. He’s a fan and when he becomes a fan of a player he goes all in for that player. If Rexypoo was a stats guy, he would have lambasted Laine and Lowry years ago. |

I like the optimism. He sure looked great in the U20, and hopefully can get a fair shake at heaving minutes with a solid pairing. The potential is there.
Lets take another minute to appreciate that trade:
Trouba (108 games played, -9, 83 Pims, 9 goals, 30 assists for 39 points) since the trade.
Jets get Heinola + Pionk (116 game played, +16, 52 Pims, 9 Goals, 65 Assists, total 74 points) since trade. Plus 5M AAV savings between the D men, and Heinola is poised to play a large role for 2 very cheap season too boot.
Chevy hit a home run on that trade. |

Though the trade looks good in hindsight, lets not forget that Morrissey has struggled immensely since Trouba has left Winnipeg. |

Depending on how many games Heinola plays in the rest of this regular season and playoffs he might be very cheap for three seasons. |

the Jets have outpaced their XG and other underlying projections for 3 straight years. it would now take 3 straight years of the predictions made using underlying numbers to be right to even tie the score. using luck and goaltending as an excuse for 3 years is now old and lazy.
so much said about underlying numbers is just words. what if I said, the Leafs rely solely on possession and shots to keep them in games and their heads above water but ultimately their inconsistent goaltending and inability to finish under pressure will always keep them from competing in the playoffs. would i be wrong? nope!!!! |

And very expensive beyond that. There’s an argument to be made that letting him slide again is a huge mistake. He only gets more expensive the longer you delay him. |

I'm not too upset about the loss tonight simply because the Jets were by far the better team and if Helle had shown up in the first few minutes Jets would have won.
I know we are supposed to be patient with 22 yr old PLD but he was horrible tonight. He probably leads the Jets in giveaways and bad plays since he arrived. A serious lack of extra effort as well. I'm trying to be patient but it's wearing pretty thin.
Benn did nothing for me tonight. Almost invisible. Heinola should have gotten the nod. He better be in the next game.
Hope Lowry is OK. Rumours were a lot of teams were eyeing him as a potential free agent. I remember Rexy saying last year Lowry would clear waivers. Really bad call there but of course where do I even start on that subject.

At no point would I ever have said Lowry would clear waivers. I’ve gotten flack for liking Lowry even when he was bad edition.

Is the first round a 7 game series?
-Just trying to estimate how long the team lasts as they struggle with the Oil and the Buds. |

Another season of North Division? I hope not, I am tired of watching the same Cdn teams 9 times.
Temporarily locate to the States if that happens again. It was fun, we did it, now head south for next year if need be. |

Matthews is unreal. Hart trophy race is back on. McDavid having an unreal year, but Leafs are a way better team, and that’s gotta count for something. And 34 goals in 43 games is just nuts
What the hell is going on with PLD? That trade has certainly brought out the worst in both guys |
