Why would Giroux agree to that? - MBFlyerfan

Here are some of the RHD possibilities we have mentioned on here. If I missed someone realistic let me know. Before you start excluding everyone folks don’t want, I have a condition...To be excluded, imagine that no other deal is to be had and the Flyers have to run it back with what we had this season. If you really like that option better, you can exclude that guy.

To Ottawa: Giroux (w/ 50% retained), Konecny, 1st
To Philadelphia: Brady Tkachuk - black_francis
Interesting concept....Tkachuk is fantastic already....but that is a big pay unless your looking at Giroux as a anchor in the deal....one reason Giroux might agree to this....he may only have one year left in Philly anyways. Ottawa is home... |

We are not gonna part with anybody!
Last year, remember many here turned down the following deals:
Sanheim straight up for Nylander
Provorov Straight up for Eichel.

What’s the incentive for Ottawa here? Does Tkachuk want out? Otherwise doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. - hereticpride
Perhaps we value a Tkachuk in our lineup more than they do. They may see a TK for Brady swap as being fairly close in value, and get excited to get a 1st and get a great player in Giroux. My hope is they look at it as a good haul to build on (i'd consider throwing in another good pick).
Brady's size and physical play would be very welcome around these parts.

Off the cuff comments:
Dougie ain't going anywhere: Carolina is one of he most exciting young teams in the league. They did their sucking, got their studs, and now will hold on to Aho, Svechnikov, Slavin and Hamilton for the next a while.
Bill was so-so on Klingberg, did not see him as a legit top pairing guy.
Risto might be available: question is, I have my doubts he is top pairing. Burns is too old unless it is a 2 year deal. I don't know much about Dumba and Manson this season. Ellis is (according to some Preds fans on this site) nowadays not the offensive force he used to be, gets injured a lot. I have not seen much of the Preds recently.
The 10 mil $ question is if Seth Jones is really wanting out. If we get him, I would not pay an outlandish fee this summer. If someone else does, let them. Hopefully he remains unsigned, and as time goes on, CBJ will get more and more desperate and his trade value will fall. |

(frank)in, why?? - SuperSchennBros
I like Tkachuk's game, would be a good flyer with our current mix. I like TK, he will be a fine player but I'd rather have Brady. As for Giroux, everyone has said we have to shed one of G, Voracek or JVR's contracts. I have a hard time believing anyone will take the Voracek or JVR contracts. Plus, this team needs a major shakeup. Trading Voracek or JVR isn't going to change the culture as much as trading G would. Ottawa is really one of the few destinations I could see him agreeing to. But yeah I have no problem retaining salary or adding a pick to move on from Giroux. I think a completely different locker room dynamic is where we need to start. Trade G, Coots is captain, add a Brady Tkachuk - That would be a solid start. |

So you have no studs on D.
And you have no current or projected studs up front (save your guy Frost, who will be 22 in a few days and has yet to crack the lineup, was picked #27 and is largely not seen as a top 20 prospect).
You may however have a stud goalie.
Do you know ANY club that has won a cup with this profile? - PT21
Why do you keep talking like you know exactly where everybody's career will end up?
Like half of these projected superstars won't undershoot, and we won't see a bunch of other guys come out of obscurity to light things up. |

And a year later ....they have regressed. So based on where this team is today I would think changes will have to be made. Your right though, he could say no...he could say it was Covid...he could use any number of excuses. But if nothing substantial gets done and this team shows no real improvement then it won’t be Fletch making the decisions going forward anyways.

Its called projections and odds. They actually do have some value.
But anyway, your own words, quoted earlier suggests your optimistic scenario is no studs on D. That leaves forwards. We have exactly 1 center who could be a game breaker: Frost, and the odds are against that eventuality.

I get it if, in your opinion, you don’t think one or another is realistically available. However, are you excluding someone if they are the only available option as I explained? Essentially just going with the same d-men as this season...keep in mind, I like Braun, but he isn’t a top pairing guy and an 82 game season would make that worse. Klingberg, for example, has a year left, so they could see if it works, and he would be a huge upgrade.

Watched how many former top-10 picks get their 2nd, 3rd, 4th lease on NHL life with the Flyers. Watched how many Flyers' own top picks turn into wet puddles on the ground.
When it comes to young hockey players, odds and projections won't take you that far. You just never know if a guy can play well until he actually does it. |

I am personally against deals like Ellis, Risto, Ekholm (he is a leftie anyway), Klingberg, Burns, where we have to shed a ton of our prospects. In that regard, I would actually agree with Tomahawk.
But Seth Jones I would really really do my due diligence on and be willing to take a big risk on. Especially if we sign Couts.
If that occurs, I would try and get some size on our wings. JVR, Bee, TK and Giroux cannot be our top 4 wingers. Thats too small and soft a set.
A player I coveted here in the off-season (other than Pietro, who was not interested) was Toffoli. I saw him on Carter's line and I saw him in Vancouver. Well, he went to Habs. Look at the season he is having. Leads the team in points last I checked. Very good 2 way player. |

How does anyone in the Sharks front office still have a job. For a minute I thought a Jake for Vlasic trade could make some sense but why in the hell do they have him under contract until he’s 39 lol
The amount of money and mid to late thirties contract years they have tied up between him, Burns and Karlsson is bonkers. |

Other than Stamkos, does any top player get injured so often?
Btw, if Stamkos again misses most of post-season, would you guys be willing to trade Jake for him straight up? They get a decent player who rarely misses games. We get a potential star, pp stud and the risk.
Salary and term are almost identical.

You would really run it back, the same d-men from this season?!! The hole next to Provy will only be bigger in a 82 game season.
Trading for one guy will not shed a ton of prospects (maybe 1-3) but may also include draft picks or current roster players.

Dude, thats why they are called odds. Odds are not guarantees, thats why they are called odds.
Every time you draft a player, give a contract, hire a coach, make a shootout move, take an icing, you are playing the odds.
If you don't look at data, at odds, what do you look at? Hope and luck as a strategy for the future?
Odds are the cv of Life.

For me, we win both ways. Either he plays or we get high picks because he is gone.
The same is not true for TB. They win cup while giving up his 8.5 mil a year in cap space.
