There's lots of options, but I think at this point it's pretty safe to say Power won't be far and away the best prospect in the draft. He may be top tier, top5, top3, who knows, but he isn't some guaranteed #1. If they chose him, from the looks of things, it's because they like him not because he's leaps and bounds better than his comp.
I prefer BPA for struggling teams as well. But there needs to be some consideration of what we have now. We're really in need of a top6 forward badly. If that's the case, if there's two or three guys of similar talent/potential, we should take the forward, right? - RhinoFan
I think KA has shown enough awareness to be very privy to this. He drafted 1 defenseman last year. I would be willing to bet that if he uses all his picks on players, he does 7F's, 3D. Or keeping to that ratio if he trades some picks. |

Sure, and as I've said I prefer Bernier to the pick. This all started when someone said get over the Quinn pick, then two minutes later says they'll kill themselves if Power is the pick.. And my point was you don't know what KA's board looks like. He sure could have Power as the Buffalo Sabres scouting-o-matic 3000 prospect of the year, and definitive number 1. |

Trade the pick.
Get kings ransom, get good players, not maybe good players. - ImThatGuy
That's nice and all, but who's making that deal and why. Does Detroit? What great young players do they want to give you? Does Anaheim? I'm sure as poop they're not giving you Drysdale. Can you get Lindholm and Comtois for the 1st, Risto and Okposo?

I don't know why I glossed over goalies. Let's say 6/3/1.

Based on the Quinn pick alone, just because a player is ranked somewhere doesn't mean he falls that way on the big board. Obvious is obvious players, your McDavids, Eichels, Matthews et al, yeah, you're never going to say no. But in a draft like this, where no player is truly special, and no player is leaps and bounds ahead of the next few guys, KA could easily pick the scouts' average number 5 guy. And everyone would lose their poop, Flacco would lead an army to the Peace Bridge and Broad's wife would have to enroll him into the psych ward, but it may be the best player for this organization because he fits here the best, coupled with having great talent, skill and character. - TheSabresTaco
That's my point though. You don't know KA's big board. He may be falling in love with power's size and skill mixture. I'm not saying it would be my pick (I have him as the 3rd guy I would choose). But if he's the pick, much like Quinn, he's the pick. And we either have to allow people to female dog about Quinn and female dog about Power, or just say as soon as the pick is in, well that's who we got now. |

I forgot you are only allowed to have players under 24 in order to be good.
its not like there are players that are good and have good contracts.
Draft Owen Power and hope he is "Tyler Myers" as it was put. - ImThatGuy
I would draft edvinsson or Clark before powers |

I understand, was more pointing to the fact that none of the defenders are being ranked like that thus far. Power is falling. If KA has him 1OA, it's not a good sign. That's all, sorry if I jumped on ya there. |

Well someone pointed out the Bob McKenzie has him at number 1, as well as 10 scouts that he works with also have him at number 1. I think he's falling in some people's eyes while still remaining a top in some as well. We'll see how it shakes out. |

Fwiw, almost every other outlet I've found has him going outside the top5 now. I'm not a big fan of McKenzie either. He's usually close, but the devil is in the details. Hearing him talk about how Makar was a tier behind Heiskanen was eye opening as an example.
I like what Byron Bader said: "At the very least, Power is likely a minute munching top4 option that produces at an above average rate and plays for over a decade in the NHL. I probably wouldn't draft him first overall as he doesn't have much superstar potential, but I can see why he might go 1OA."
To me that says, he's not the most talented guy. He isn't going to be Hedman ever. But he's a huge defender with decent skating, maybe he turns into the next Hanifin, so he may get taken early if a team thinks they can build around that. |

Larkin is very good.
Do we need another center with Jack Cozo Mitts and a backup in Reinhart?
Wallstedt will be a freak. Askarov ain't got nothing on that boy. |
