Wow, do we misuse the term "dominated" around here a lot.
Umm no other camera in the arena caught that "goal" either.

- Fakepartofme

We outshot them 39 to 24.

And that's with them blocking 23 shots to our 13.

Their goalie played well.

Now let's never speak of that game again.

Back when I played. The first game back from a long layoff wasnt to bad. Adrenaline was pumping and felt great. It was the second game that was a killer, you just felt (frank)ed...
- Buck Norris

That's what i'm thinking as well... The body soreness and muscles are going to be feeling it for the second game.

They feel good about winning the first one so there'll be a mental let down as well imo. Fans are happy they 'embarrassed' the Leafs, so the team feels it already did its job.

But this is where you get to see the character in the room. if the Canucks have any, they'll avoid a blowout, if the Leafs have any they'll make sure to put the Canucks away early with a 3-5 goal lead...

Fans will watch it.

Fans from all around the world.

it's the logical next step - adding a higher level to the pyramid to ensure some competition.

The only reason fans watch Premier League now is because there isn't a better alternative.

Will this suck as a Southampton fan?

Yes, but it already sucks to be a Southhampton fan.

And it's not a valid argument for creating a more competitive league.

- Atomic Wedgie

I don't think it's so sure fans will watch it.
The involved teams obviously will have to eventually step out of the national leagues, and start playing their games over the weekends.

One thing worth to mention: it is very likely that disparity between teams will happen in the new superleague as well. (Real Madrid, Barcelona, ManU, ManC and Bayern Munich, PSG (if top teams) very likely will be the top teams due to their finances -- and the lesser teams (the ones that will join later to make it a full 20-24 team league) will go from being top teams in their national leagues to perennial losers in a european super league.

But they did show him pull it out of the net, ref should be able to judge whether or not on a quick whistle.

Cool, use video replay. We can argue about whether the puck went in after the play was over. We can all see it and argue over it.

The idea that there is some absolute scientific way to determine if there’s a goal that everyone will accept is absurd. Will everyone run out and buy the home NHL GPS system and run our own simulations and then argue about it here?

- Canada Cup

Actally not so. There is a way to scientifically determine whether a goal has crossed the line. Lidar (light detection and ranging) uses sensors to accurately measure distances from a reference point. It is reliable and accurate. These sensors could easily detect whether a puck crosses the goaline even if the goalie tries to Cheat hide the puck with his equipment

Get your AZ vaccines and we can all hold hands again.
It's the lack of touch that has separated us for oh so long.

Tomorrow I get my shot

I register on-line and waited for an appointment to be sent my way.
I needed to go get something for my mother and happen to over hear someone booking an appointment right there, so I did the same.

Silver lining, Southampton will be the cream of the crop in the lesser league.

A larger percentage of revenues will come from international broadcasting - which will be split evenly.

Hell, they may even put in a cap.

This isn't about some guy in Southhampton who wants to watch the game of the week on BBC.

It's about some guy in Asia who wants to watch the game on his phone.

It's a global game. A global league will suck up the most dollars.

The only thing stopping it is the people who so far have had hegemony. Of course they oppose it.

In a lot of ways, it's reminiscent of watching the powers that be oppose the introduction of professionalism in rugby. We look back at it now and laugh about how stupid it all was. It was just about the people with the money wanting to remain the people with the money.

Try telling a millennial that prior to 1995, you weren't allowed to play rugby for money. They won't believe you.

I'm interested in his sources on the subject.
We all know and feel his hatred/whipping boy towards Nylander
so I'm not sure if this is one of his Fire Dubas type of thing

Completely disagree - but that's because I am in Europe, and used to much more teams and more professional leagues. I guess it's different if you look at this from a NA perspective, where you have 1 top league (which at the time is the best league in world) with 24-32 teams.
Football (translation: soccer) is a much bigger sport (if only for people that play it).

99% of european fans seem to dislike this superleague idea.
most of the (former) top players seem to dislike it.

I think JP Morgan is not understanding well that if fans are not interested in watching those games, it's a bad loan.

- MaximusAurelius

I'm a footy guy and have been my whole life. It's not a euro vs. n.a. view. I don't love the super league idea at all mostly bc I love the idea of smaller markets/teams climbing the ladder.

Ultimately this is all about those 12/15 teams feeling that they generate all of the CL income and aren't currently getting the cut they want. Fans, like me, will watch and buy and spend their money. They, and JP Morgan, will win ...many times over.

Uefa will lose b/c presumably over time the C.L. will become less relevant or collapse altogether. Smaller markets will lose b/c the CL did a much better job spreading its wealth then the S.L.

It's capitalism at its clearest. 15 teams have just written themselves guaranteed pay days for the infinite future. Those 5 open spots will be the most hotly contested victories in all of sports b/c it will equate to hundreds of millions of dollars of income each and every year.

Rink measuements are not relevant. Only the goaline relative to the puck. Ice surface is also not relevant.

european football at the end is first of all about fans in the stadiums, and more broadly about european fans.
a guy in asia will not watch a game at 4-5am his time..

Ya sure ...tell that to Agnelli, Rodriguez, Glazer, Kroenke et al ....

These billionaires want to ensure that their grandchildren's grandchildren can afford their yachts and private islands.

The year LFC won CL they cashed in on about 120-150 Milly in prize $$.

Just showing up in the Superleague they'll reportedly double or triple that.

this is what most football fans agree on, and the biggest points of criticism.

however, I am not sure UEFA & FIFA will lose - they can still leverage the World Cup card (restricting superleague players from participating).
