Were they Scottish? My grandmother would refer to hers as the chesterfield.

Just for clarity ....if employees have tested positive they stay home and get a poopty Federal benefit ~$500 per week.

The bigger issue is the moment in the morning when an employee feels a sore throat or runny nose and has to go to work and maybe take transit to make a buck b/c they have no paid sick time and can't work from home.

- The Law

100 years ago, I worked for a germaphobe.

She was crazy about ordering you home if you had the sniffles. And she was so crazy she would tell you not to take it as a sick day - she didn’t want that as a means to discourage you from taking the day off.

Oddly enough, I would sometimes have coughing fits in her office on Thursday afternoons in the summer.

Sitting in waiting room - just got the vaccine.

Rule number one: never bother to do anything for yourself when you have a psychotic A personality wife.

Be prepared to feel generally crappy in about 8-12 hours and lasting a little more than a day

Ya, Peel Public Health is the authority in Peel that has said employers will be shut down if they have 5 positive tests in 2 weeks ("outbreak").

For covid, yes.

Otherwise, no. I am not sure what is legislated. Our company does, but I am not sure what other companies/industries do?

so anyone in Canada that is out of work because of a traffic accident or cancer care is going to be financially ruined? can't be right...? other regulations you have?

If they get Coid they can collect under the federal program.

EI - Federal
CPP - Federal
Tax Admin - CRA, Federal
Worker's compensation - Federal
CERB- Federal

Paid sick days (beyond what is available Federally)... somehow this became provincial and is Doug Ford's fault.

Meanwhile, the Liberals finally release a budget after 2 years that has 100B in new spending and no new cash for paid sick days. I am assuming we are blaming Doug Ford for that also.

It's a failure at both levels - Provincial and Federal across the country. I'm probably as Liberal as anyone else around here in terms of my voting preference, but the Liberals should be steering the ship, and I don't think they've done a great job of that. Provincially, there are also a number of things the Premiers can do to assist, but that would mean opposing corporate or industry interests and that's dangerous territory.

There's a lot of blame to go around; no one should be absolved, and no one should be shouldering the blame alone.

STD, LTD, EI, Sick Days ... There are programs. Whether they are adequate, I can't say.

I think you hit the nail on the head here.

Still way too much politics instead of truly doing what is right for health. It happens at all levels of government.

That, and there is no playbook for this.

Yeah and then the government taxis the people on those planes directly into busy shopping malls without even checking their passports.

I saw a youtube video about it.

No ..but maybe.

Many workers have LTD or STD via their employment or through privately purchased insurance coverage. Many many do not.

Those that don't would apply for E.I which would pay roughly 55% of your net up to a max of about $550 per week I think.

If it's a car accident or workplace accidents then auto insurance workplace insurance coverage pays while they're off work.

despite of the warnings over the last 10 years to all of our politics that an outbreak like covid19 was bound to happen, most of them were on the 'infectious diseases don't really exist anymore in western world'...
climate change was much more interesting to them to get new business from.
(of course, when ordering investments on different UN Societal Development Goals based on ROI -- climate change programs are the Buffalo Sabres of the SDGs)

now we have covid - wait until antimicrobial resistance becomes bigger (and politicians again say 'we never knew!!')

One of my favourite anecdotes last week about our awesome Federal mandatory hotel/jail stay...

Woman had to take a packed shuttle, and then the hotel lobby was packed with people checking in for 2 hours.

She, rightfully so, questioned how this helped anyone, and in fact, whether or not this would just cause more spread.

As Wedgie pointed out the other day.
People lose their poop no matter which way he goes.

Then people get it in their head that something is Provincial, and everyone who leans left in their politics blames Ford immediately.

100B in new spending of our tax dollars and no improvements to paid sick days... but somehow this is Ford's fault.

Believe it or not, I don't like some of the decisions also and were there an election tomorrow, I would spoil my ballot, but the over the top blame for Ford the last couple weeks is (frank)ing ridiculous.

- Aetherial

he has done a (frank)ing horrible job, just out of his depth...maybe he can take more pictures and tweet about driving to get more vaccines

And not just governments ..employers too.

Nothing stopping employers from making a better choice.

Our office has 5 paid sick days. We extended it to cover any time missed due to a covid positive test.

We're fortunate b/c anybody isolating for "close contact" can still work from home.

The biggest issues are in the factories and warehouses or anywhere people can't work from home.

It is a valid question. If the alternative was that everyone would agree in good faith to quarantine for a two week period at home after arriving from abroad, wouldn't that be something?

Ultimately the punch line when this is all "over" will be ....people all suck.

We need to give this rock back to the animals.

You cannot, under any circumstance blame people. This is all the government's fault. ALL the spread has been unavoidable. It is the result of poor provincial government decisions.

Hey... you notice how barely anybody argued with the vaccine roleout, prioritizing by risk of serious infection or death. It made sense.

Until, the variants hit and some young people ended up in the hospital. THEN it was all Ford's fault.

Like I said, no playbook. We all know that science and government is learning as they go, but we still like to blame politicians as if they have perfect knowledge of the future.

Asked where Premier Ford is, deputy Premier Elliott says: “The Premier has been very busy working to try and find vaccines for Ontario” “He’s devoting his time to help us get out of the pandemic” “He’s been working on the vaccination efforts basically full-time”

phew...dugs on the case
