I think this is our second go around with Utica, weren't we affiliated with them in the late 80's early 90's?
- FAZOOL

I thought the Utica affiliation is not a sure thing yet, but you are 100% correct. They were our Farm team from 87-93. Marty and a lot of the great homegrown talent played for them.

EDIT: This got me wondering who was the NJ Devils AHL affiliates before the Utica Devils? 1983 to 1987 it was the Maine Mariners who moved to Utica, so same franchise. Before that it was the Wichita Wind from 1982-1983. I would have guessed that goes back to our days as the Kansas City Scouts but the farm team for them was the Baltimore Clippers from 74-75 and then the Springfield Indians from 75-76. The Colorado Rockies had too many to list, so here's a link if interested.

When I was a much younger, I went to a lot of games with a buddy who was a Ranger fan. Because very good things use to happen for this franchise I'd occasionally turn to him and say "God is a Devils fan! Strange but true!" So I'm just think he hates us now.... But you could be right.

Ty Smith wont play tonight, hes day to day with an upper body injury. Butcher goes in for him.

Blackwood is also out tonight with an upper body injury sustained in the Rangers game

Both Zacha and Bratt joined morning skate late, but wont play tonight

Add Subban to the list of players out tonight. He's on the covid protocol list

I might be going out on a limb here but I don't think we're going to win this one.

I thought both Mercer and Mukhamadullin were more noticeable and effective in that particular tournament. - WayneZ

Mukhamadullin was atrocious at the world juniors, our best d prospect in my opinion is Yegor Zaitsev, there's a reason he played every game for a second season in a row for dynamo at 16 mins per night, because they trust him defensively.

Lets be honest here. Mukhamadulin was a panic pick. Management thought for sure schneider was going to be there at pick 20. When the rangers traded up to pick 19 and took him, the devils had no idea what to do and they were on the clock.

I dont think this is true at all. Theres no evidence that they wanted Schneider, and if they did actually want him that badly that they would 'panic pick' if he was taken then they wouldve just taken him 2 picks earlier. They really liked Mukhamadullin and didnt have a 2nd round pick to take him. It was reported and confirmed that the Devils tried to trade down from that pick but didnt get anything they liked, so they took him there because they didnt want to miss out on him.

The analytics guys also said Schneider was one of the more overrated prospects in the draft. It's just the fact that the Rangers happened to trade up is why fans are pissed about it. If another team (maybe other than the Flyers) did the same thing nobody would've cared at all.

Yeah for sure, most of the analytical people think Schneider max out as a 3rd pairing D/PK specialist and the analytics are not in his favor at all, which idk about you, but i dont want to spend a 1st round pick on a guy whose ceiling is that. Atleast with Shak, whether you hate the pick or not, the upside is there for him to be a difference maker. He's just a project/boom or bust prospect. But yeah i agree since it was the Rangers, all these BS rumors came out about how they "stole" the Devils pick and made them panic pick. But thats all it is, BS

Personally, Schneider was a guy i didnt want them to take so i was happy the Rangers jumped up and took him off the board so we didnt even get a chance to take him.

Ruff confirms Subban had a positive Covid test, and Maltsev is also in protocol because of close contact. Which is why he was out tonight too

I don’t care about it regardless of what the truth is because Fritzy picked Awesome Dawson Mercer; which he was smart to target. Had the Rangers taken Dawson from us because we picked Schneider (or Shak) at 18 it would been horrific.
IMO Fritzy did the right thing.

I think it's interesting to see the change in regions drafted over time. Russia has been a "down" region in the draft lately so some teams might have been sleeping on some of the prospects especially when you factor in the lockdowns. Some teams went with safer picks on players they just saw more of. We used one of our firsts on a kid that is a big wild card. But so did the Blue Jackets who everybody thought were crazy for their pick even though they've done well getting the most out of their draft picks in recent years.

Absolutely, 100% agree. Mercer is looking like a stud, i still dont know how he fell to us at 18. I figured he was a lock inside the top 15 pre-draft

The last time it happened was back in 1991, Caps lost to the Rangers 8-6 after scoring 6 goals in the 1st period.

BUT, the Penguins are now the 1st team in the NHL history to win a game after being outscored by 5+ in the 3rd period though. Previous teams were 0-270 in the regular season and 0-9 in the playoffs
