If Columbus makes it known that Jones is available, there's at least a handful of other teams that would have very little trouble putting together a package that is more desirable than anything the Flyers could/would do (within reason). |

Doughty surprises me a bit, as he's played on a lot of good teams. The others you mention are prime examples. - PLindbergh31
Have you seen CBJ play the past few years? Those guys do everything right but just cannot score. |

I am reading this as underoos over dads, which is somewhat ... unsettling.

If there are any "whatever it takes" players out there this off season, Dougie Hamilton would be the one who closest resembles that player for me. Roll out the bank truck and adjust where you have to.
I wouldn't have that frame of mind for Jack Eichel. |

Honest question. What would you offer Hamilton? Would you want to sign him at all? Who would you rather have?

Hamilton is what this team needs. I'd happily pay him $9-10M for whatever years.
He's not what the fans want, however. |

Your typical Flyers fan wants another Chris Pronger. Dougie Hamilton is not that.
He'll fix the PP, he'll be sublime on breakouts, he'll be a great positional/stick defender and he'll come to play most every night. Basically everything this team really needs.
But you know fans will complain that he's too soft, turns the puck over too much, is a non-entity in the room, etc. Same old complaints we've heard for years levied at Flyers past and present. |

We tried to count on unproven D men this year and it was a total disaster. And Provy took a step back as well having to play with Braun. At the very least they need to add a proven top 4 D man imo.
I’d love Eichel. Eichel & Risto would be a great package. I think we’d have to send Coots and TK the other way at the very least to make it work capwise. They aren’t going to take Jake or JVR - hereticpride
You think Ivan Provorov, Travis Sanheim, Shayne Gostisbehere, Robert Hagg and Justin Braun are unproven? |

The Flyers, IMO, need more than just a complementary piece to Provorov, ala Niskanen. York is completely an unknown quantity as a pro, is rather likely to have some growing pains (as most young defensemen do) at the NHL level. Sanheim and Myers both have significant issues with inconsistency.
As for Eichel, if the Flyers are going to expend major resources on an outside acquisition, I'd rather it be for the top of the blueline. - bmeltzer
I’d rather not spend on something we already have or expect to develop to. Ivan Provorov has expectations to someday contend for a Norris. High expectations for Sanheim too.

Outside of Provy and Braun I think you have no idea what to expect out of those other guys on any given night, yes.
Coming back with this D group next year would be laughable. |

I think you have a case, I think all of the D should be better next season, how could they not be. If they could find the Nisk of 2021 I would be fine with that, I just don't see it. It was lighting in the bottle with Nisk, coming off a down year, he wanted to bounce back and his skillset was perfect for the D core and Provy. Having that happen again is a long shot. They need to compete next season, they need a D, if you can get Dougie, go for it.
The good news, no Flyer improved their contract negotiation status, sign them all now....
