I think they take Asplund, followed by Girgensons. Why would they take a $5.4m pending UFA? - jcragcrumple
So you can trade him at the deadline for a 2nd rounder? |

Do you think Seattle would select Risto if their choices were Asplund, Miller, Girgensons and Risto?
I dont. I think they would take Asplund but could be incentivized to take Girgensons pretty easily - jcragcrumple
Yes, I think risto has some value still. Of course, I like his truckulance and he's still relatively young.
The block head plays will always be there, but he's a consistent 35- 40 point defenseman. That's appealing.
The trade value at the tdl would be the clincher for the kracken. Easily a 1st. He's built for the nhl playoffs.
Something none of the other players would bring as value imo. They are more "build around" strictly players. Risto is both.
I would pick risto, asplund , great28 and miller in that order. Tage would be 1st, if un- protected. If I were the kracken. đź‘Ť |

Risto holds value around the league. Mainly because most teams are run by people who were around in the late 90s early 2000s.
People love the physical side regardless of how bad the player actually is. |

He absolutely has value, but even dinosaurs like Brian Burke know how bad Ristolainen actually is.
I think it's possible to say, you know what, I love watching Ristolainen play hard and relentless, but I fully acknowledge he's overpaid and also bad at defense. |

If this were true I think he would have been moved by now. It still pains me that we could have added to him to get Ehlers.

Neither has done anything individually to get this team above a bottom-10 team. That..and the Risto hate is bordering on some silly sandlot psychosis. |

Again he stepped up, that's what matters. When has Girgelson done that, guess it's kinda hard when your laying on the ice more than on your skates - Buff36
Stepping up, that's what matters.

I told you it wouldn't deter the Bruins from cheap shoting the Sabres. It didn't. You are wrong. *again
Sure, his teammates appreciated the fact that he tried.
The bruins do not respect the biggest guy on the Sabres getting his ass handed to him. |

It's being driven by an ignorance that Risto actually helps this team, where there's actual proof that the opposite is true. If we're going to use the 'playoff record' model, and god help me here, Jack Eichel is considered as bad as Rasmus Ristolainen. And they're as bad as Rasmus Dahlin, and Dylan Cozens, and Henri Jokiharju.
End of the day, you keep the players that help you, or you trade them for needs, and shed the players that hurt you.
Sam helps, Risto hurts, and the empirical evidence is overwhelming.

Ron Francis did trade for Trevor Van Riemsdyke so Risto is probably in his wheelhouse.
Botterill is AGM and I think he would lean toward Asplund or certainly Tage if he were available
I wouldn't lose sleep over Risto being exposed in any case. Let them pick or give them a 5th to take gus |

Risto is the reason Skunk is still trying to make Junior-level passes in the NHL and it's why those passes end up as turnovers. - Michael Pachla
Sabres have lacked effort for a decade.
Let's leave the 2 guy's who go balls out every shift unprotected. Viking55 and great28
From the softest team in the league, with a decade of effort issues from well paid professionals.
* I'm also signing dahlin to 8 years max. As soon as possible. Unless they can punt and resign without issues in 2 years. Dahlin seems like the perfect target to "rfa" the Sabres into a 5 year bs deal like the habs did with aho I believe? |

The worst thing you can do with expansion is twist yourself into knots to protect guys like the Wild and Panthers did.
If a moderate sweetener doesn't get it done, you simply let them pick from Asplund, Miller, Girgensons and Risto |
