The more that comes out
Ralph = Rex
Didn't keep tabs on players, did zero to help them.
Was there for a paycheck.
Great used car salesman. - ImThatGuy
I don't know if it's that cut and dry. Used car salesmen for sure. But Casey was starting to form into a better player at the beginning of this season. I don't feel like defending Ralph's merits. Like Rex, he was everyone's buddy. Bad practices, bad schemes, bad defensive coaches. Just utterly ineffective.

was left to wonder why the d looked like a chinese fire drill all these years and where the defensemen learned that chipping it out of the zone is the best approach

find 'X' on wall, beat head - Michael Pachla
The Red Wings came into the playoffs with the best regular-season record in the Western Conference. But then they had to face the San Jose Sharks. Red Wings coach Scotty Bowman's "Spinal Tap"-like troubles in the tunnels of the San Jose Arena were prophetic -- he was stumped by the tangled maze, and twice locked himself into rooms beneath the Arena, from which he had to be rescued.

what were they thinking?...like, really...wtf on earth were they thinking? - Michael Pachla
I've never really taken the time to look around the league at the qualifications of other teams' assistant coaches. But I think, ideally, you're finding a young and/or modern approach from a guy with extensive playing experience, at the very least. Playing and coaching experience combined, probably ideal. I think it's what would make a guy like Danny Girardi a quality coach. Of course, you need to have that makeup to you as well. Qualifying and quantifying what makes you a good coach is probably impossible. But a lot of good coaches stay with modern approaches to the game, are flexible, and employ guys who are great teachers.

in looking at buffalo's defense over the past five/six seasons, it's safe to say that we have seen bad coaching quantified here
