I would go the passive route. I think if he were exposed to expansion, he wouldn't be selected. I think the Kraken with JB as AGM would select Asplund/Tage/Bjork, and I think if the Sabres threw in the Staal 5th, they'll take Girgensons over any of those 3. But exposing Risto is a risk I'd be willing to take, in any case

Going this direction, you could trade him either at the draft this year, TDL next year, or if things go right, you make the playoffs and reassess then

Bad on the goal though. He gave way too much space to Hall. He should have pressured him. Hall doesn't have moves. He would have just fallen toward the boards and squirted the puck behind the net

I dont think it's easy. If you can't get Reinhart for $7, you have to explore trading him at a high point point now that he's a "center."

I dont want the Sabres to dip their toes in free agency "a-tall" except for buy-low candidates like Rieder or Pouliot
