Gonna be interesting to see about next year, we need to see him carry the load in these final games. - Buff36
I hope they don't rush this kid.
He is way too important for the long term to rush his development. |

unlike hall, reinhart has been pretty damn consistent for the last 200 games
he is what he is
does not get hurt
current pace is pretty much a 65 point per season player for the last 3 and a half seasons
it's up to the sabres brass what to do with him
is he a second line center, or a first line winger
they have a decision to make for sure with him, and others
the good thing, if eichel wanted out, you can roll cozens, reinhart and casey as your top 3 centers and in a better place then we were when ralph was coaching
I mean we had lazar and sheahan playing in the top 6 on the dot replacing eichel
with staal and eakin as your top 3 centers

Bringing up stats from Sam 3 years ago or even 3 weeks ago does not make a case for him going forward. Remember Hall was an MVP and we had that thrown at us a few times. What Sam has done recently as a Center is IMO a small sample size.
Whether Sam will play Center next year will simply be answered by what KA can do in the off season. Is Jack going to be 1C? Will KA trade Risto for a 2C? Will KA dip into FA and bring home the big fish, a real proven 2C? I wouldn’t say Sam will or will not be Center but IMO and like Maury Povich would say “you are not the Center”. - Camel
Why would Adams be looking for and spend assets on a 2C? |

I'm confused with Reinhart:
-is he a C or RW?
-does he suck at C or not?
-1st line or 2nd or 3rd line player?
-is he 65, 60, or 55 pt producer?...64.7 or 59.8 average production?
-does he now take pictures and sign autographs, or not?
-in a trade for M Tkachuk; do the Sabres have to add, or does Calgary?

How about a tandem of Ullmark and Bernier next season?
Each goalie gets $3.5-$3.75 million each for 2 years?

That could work, don't know if Ullmark takes that but guess we will have to wait and see. |

-does he suck at C or not? - kinda not really a 1c, not really as a 2c, probably not as a 3c
-1st line or 2nd or 3rd line player? - 1st line RW, 2C-ish? ... too expensive for 3rd line anything
-is he 65, 60, or 55 pt producer?...64.7 or 59.8 average production? - have you backed out his center production and calculated accordingly?
-does he now take pictures and sign autographs, or not? - god no! But rippers of strippers asses are still fare game!
-in a trade for M Tkachuk; do the Sabres have to add, or does Calgary? - as of right now, Calgary. |

I’d rather take one to 3 years... I don’t like going into the offseason with no goalies under contract. Does a 3rd year for Ullmark lower his ask a little? |

From 2017-18 til now he has 198 points in 279 games which equals 58 pts/82 games, the exact figure he's at this season - Michael Pachla
One thing to remember when doing this is 97 of the 279 (roughly a third) were under Ralph's stifling "system". I normally don't like this explanation, but in Ralph's case it's hard to not see it as every player has thrived since his exit.
I think he can be a 65/70 ppg player in the system set up now with a more attacking philosophy. The question for me would be does he lose any of the defensive side to his game with more uptempo. I think he's one of our better defensive forwards (cerebral Sam baby). |

As far as FA goes, I think the following positions represent the Sabres greatest needs this offseason:
-Goalie...Starter and Backup or 1A and 1B. I'll consider Ullmark one of those.
-1RhD...I personally believe that the proper player in this position rationalizes their right side defense by having Joker at 2RhD and Borgen at 3RhD...a nice match capabilities and responsibilities
-2LhD...similar to 1RhD rationalization conceptually, but different. Dahlin as 1LhD and Bryson as 3LhD have already rationalized the left side. The rationalization I'm speaking of now is the balance of each Pairing with a) a puckmover and b) a defensively stout Dman with grit/physicality. Bringing in a defensively stout player to 2LhD is a nice compliment to Joker the puckmover. McCabe fits this need highly effectively.
Dahlin [ puckmover] - Savard [ defensive acumen/physicality]
McCabe [ defensive acumen/physicality] - Joker [ puckmover]
Bryson [ puckmover] - Borgen [ defensive acumen/physicality]
》it should be noted there are different degrees for each type that exist, it should not be misinterpreted that it is an either/or characterization.

Usually, in UFA land, longer term increases the AVV. |

I love this rational and it seems like that is what Donny is trying to do.
My one question, 2LHD, what if McCabe is ready at the start of the season? Who is stepping in? Do you move Bryson up, Slide Samuelson in to start the year?
It messes the balance up a little. Unless you slide Samuelson in at 2LD and manage the minutes accordingly. But that could be leaning on Bryson/Borgen too much? |

I realize that wasn't a serious post, most likely a jab at someone but Sam was a Center for Kootenay - so he always should have been a Center here. We most likely messed him up by playing him at Wing. I've always wanted to say that whenever I see the daily Sam Reinhart "center or wing" arguments, but just never got around to replying.
In summary : Reinhart IS a center here and should have been from the start. We most-likely messed his first few seasons up by playing him at wing. Whomever was in charge back then made the wrong, egotistical decision in saying "He's no center in the NHL...I'm going to turn him into a winger !".

There are a lot of examples of centers being used as wings early on to get their feet wet. I think he stayed at wing because he showed good chemistry with Eichel. |

That seems backwards! Lol. The team is giving you more stability, you can take a little less for the stability. Lol
I still want Ullmark at $4ish for 3... I think $5ish is too much for his availability... this latest injury hurt his position I think, hope?!? |
