https://ottawacitizen.com...ases-among-students-staff

also, is that current...with different strains etc..what was in Oct-dec may not be whats going on now

Also, My research was this weekend.

Chart on the right side near the top
https://www.covid19inontario.com/school-tracker

The chart on the left shows cumulative cases. Note the flat slope. Compare that to the curve for new infections from Feb, to April (sure that info is out there), I believe it would be more exponential than a flat slope. This is pretty good evidence that the growth is Gen pop is causing a slower growth in the schools and that the schools are definitely not the thing driving this.

How is him getting a vaccine shot now going to change that situation during the next 3-6 months?

My late father-in-law voted Tory his entire life. He wasn't militant or anything, and was never actually involved in politics, but that's the box he always ticked.

Then Mike Harris came along.

My mother-in-law was a teacher. My father-in-law never forgave Harris for how he treated the teachers. As far as I know, he never voted Conservative again.

- Atomic Wedgie

Honestly Wedgie, I don't know what to do. I don't like the Liberals. I think Wynne was a disaster and Trudeau a repeat criminal. I can't vote Conservative anymore and I will never vote NDP.

It's frustrating.

Pretty simple solution:

Open up bars and restaurants to people under 18 and over the age of 40.

Or maybe for just the restaurants in my neighbourhood.

Pretty please?

- Atomic Wedgie

Would make sense if these places could open but couldn't sell booze. I don't care what anyone says, there's no way a restaurant is pumping out the covid numbers like a bar.

Wanna drink during a pandemic, do it at home. But at least let the places open and sell food if they wish, give them some shot at an income.

schools were one of the biggest spreaders.. Most school buildings in Ontario are old and do not have proper ventilation. Lecce thinking, or rather telling people schools are safe was selfish and ignorant on his part.
- PatC80

Source?

I'm not arguing a position either way but is that accurate?

Just my experience but ..

In January two major studies were floated (one huge one in the US and one in Canada) that found that schools were not major spreaders. Schools in high risk neighbourhoods became a problem but that was determined to be a product of the community transmission ..not the cause.

Indoor, poor social distancing, poor ventilation ...that is the general elixir.

My interaction with schools for my kids has been good ...great distancing ...mask enforcement. Probably not true of all schools though. In fact my daughters school had a mini outbreak a couple of weeks ago. 3 young teachers/T.A.'s tested positive ...4 classrooms of kids and their families were isolated and sent for testing. No other positive tests at all. So two take aways ...young adults brought it into the school setting and protocols worked perfectly to ensure no transmission.

Again, it can work just fine but I guess in high risk neighbourhoods it becomes too difficult.

I agree with everything above.

Two quick adds:

- There was strong urging from multiple sources, including the Hospital for Sick Children, to keep the schools open if possible. The risk to mental health was much higher for kids.

- Teachers should have been considered frontline workers, and allowed to go in the first wave of inoculations.

I guess you can never predict a jury unless you get paid to predict juries than you can pretend that you can predict the jury but

unless there's someone who absolutely believes that a cop is entitled to do pretty well anything he wants it's hard to see how he doesn't get slammed. Maybe they saw off at third if they have to bring one of them along but 2nd is certainly there

Wife and I have an appointment for the Phizer a week from tomorrow. Were told to drink lots of water all day and tylenol at night. Might replace the water with Alpine.
No way I was taking the Astra, even If I had to drive across Canada to avoid it.

There’s a big age group between 20 somethings and wherever they were when they opened things up. Expanding eligibility in hotspots is the right thing to do to get things under control and ease pressure on hospitals.

Not everyone in that big age group was out drinking

- Canada Cup

Understood, but with a limited supply of vaccines there is a trade off. In this case it was other priority groups like teachers, or people 40-55 until recently.

50-64 has 10X the chance of dieing as 30-39 and 40X the chance as 18-29. Obviously the numbers get worse as the age increases.

Until the last 2 months, when young people started getting the variants, we were vaccinating largely by age, after some priority groups. This was based on the risk of severe outcome, and people didn't say much. then suddenly it became all about hotspots and it was Ford's fault for getting it wrong. WTF.

I'm not sure what you're saying. Vaccines are good. He lives in a high infection area and wants to get vaccinated. If you think this is bad somehow you're not explaining it. If you're doing a Max thing, that's fine

Ya the law talking side of me says they cut to the middle bc one or two jurors will waiver on causation but who knows ...

However ...this is quick ..no questions ...so maybe guilty on them all.

Here is a question I want answered.

I have read endless piling on, on Ford for not prioritizing the hot spots until he finally did.

How come Federally, we are distributing the vaccine by population (has this changed very recently). Some provinces have VERY little spread province-wide, yet have similar vaccination rates to Ontario. Ontario is 8th among the provinces and territories in vaccination % (at least one dose), yet our infection numbers are higher than anywhere in the country.

Yet, the Federal Gov. gets ZERO heat for their vaccination distribution, from all those same doctors and Non-conservative politicians.

Interesting.

Same but add to this McGuilty being a POS before Wynne bag got in.

The only thing that makes me think I might have to hold my nose and vote Conservative is by thinking to myself how much better or worse off would Ontario have been if we had Horwath or Del Duca as the premier?

To me it's like asking which tennis ball you want to take square to the nuts and your trying to figure out which one has less air in it. They are all going to hurt like hell.

I got Pfizer last Monday. No side effects to report besides some arm soreness, but that could also be the 12 rounds I went with myself the day before. I don’t know, in COVID the days in solitude just blend together.

Well congrats I guess, but I can't agree with not taking the AZ.
