Feds can provide grants and benefits to people. ie. feds have the ability to hand out money.
Provinces are the only ones who are capable of coercing companies to pay employees for sick days. - TheMussel
Not sure that is true. Most taxes (coercion) paid by companies is federal I believe.

I am not sure he did.
I guess that is my point.
Numbers got worse, people got more sick and tired of all of this. Businesses went under, tempers are flaring.
The thing is, the entire world has gone through these cycles.
But soooo many people have managed to focus the blame for all of Ontario's problems and angst on one man.
As if a different person would have meant everything would be roses now, counter to, you know, the rest of the world.
Why didn't Trudeau give everyone a month to get home, pay for the airlines to make the flights and then shut the borders? - Aetherial
In hindsight Trudeau should have

The feds didn’t really have a lot of options.
Earlier you were complaining that we didn’t sign agreements with the US for vaccines.
That wasn’t on the table, thanks to Trump.
PM Mulroney sold off our vaccine manufacturing capabilities.
Every federal government of every flavour after him ignored it.
That’s 95% of why we are playing catch-up on doses. - Atomic Wedgie
I'll say it again: we're not doing that badly on doses. Looking at per 100 people doses administered, we're about 20th (if you take out countries with a population of less than 1M./about 28th overall). If you look at % of population with a single dose, we're about 10th of countries with pops above 1M (17th overrall)
We're ahead of almost all of Europe in both groups so not so very, very, Freddie Andersen terrible (yes we're ahead of Denmark) |

Provinces are responsible for heath care.
You imply that the feds are somehow shirking their responsibilities.
This is not the case. - Atomic Wedgie
Current Federal Program for paid sick days for Covid yes or no?
Adequate yes or no?
Feds give the provinces more money to implement their own programs yes or no?
but people just blame one man, for the whole mess.

I want them administering who goes next to get the vaccine. |

The federal program isn't for paid sick days. The federal program is specifically to give people money (a flat rate) for getting covid and missing work. It's like getting disability benefits from the federal government. |

Truthfully, not even I 100% fault him, pending me finally getting around to researching something about our vaccine producing capabilities and the fact that Astra Zeneca was looking for partners (Chile?!) i think he made a mistake not dealing with the U.S., but I get why. The point is, I don't really blame him for that part because I don't expect the government to have 20/20 vision on this.
I am at least partly, playing devil's advocate here because I find it ridiculous that one guy is the source of our problems, which are mirroring what is happening worldwide. |

They blame he because he is not listening to the Science Team - contrary to what he says in public.
Have you watched any of the news where they interview the Health care professionals or read any of the news stories in the papers?
Ford has had chances to mitigate the problem, but has not followed sound advice.

Ford started strong and then backed off. I've said three of four times that he could not have prevented this even if he had done everything right. That doesn't mean he didn't (frank) up in the last two month because he did. I detest the guy but I gave him major props fo a long time. Not now.

I got my shot outside of my postal code and a day before the 40+ rollback kicked in, just through word to the wise on twitter. The big clinic at Downsview Arena stopped checking postal codes and dropped from age 55 to 40 for Monday because they had 1000 doses of AZ and the boomers weren't showing up. I got in line for an hour and got a shot.
The boomers and other confused people are turning their nose up at AZ because they get their info from facebook. Turning down a safe vaccine during a pandemic in which they are now choosing who gets high flow oxygen machines in tbe ICU is a failure of intelligence . |

What people are missing is that I don't like him either.
Honestly, I think he started strong because nobody was bored and frustrated and angry until this dragged on for so long. also, the variants suddenly made it worse.
Without any precedent and not enough vaccine (almost an entire worldwide problem), the only thing he could have done was a complete shutdown all along and even then, I do not believe people would adhere to it. and such a complete shutdown would have had catastrophic consequences in other areas. |

I only semi-understand it myself Zezel. My best friend is holding out for Pfizer or Moderna.
I expect (hope) now that they have lowered the age to 40, more doses will be taken. |

The feds launder a lot of back to the provinces through transfers systems. That way they get to set priorities (negotiated) and redistribute (Gary Bettman parity) |

The healthcare people's job is to advocate 100% for health.
Sad as this sounds, managing a pandemic is about more than that. If it wasn't we would have closed the borders in April, established a curfew with hefty fines, and poop down all non-essential business, period. Only Drug Stores and pharmacies would be open.
How well do you think that would have worked. Do you think he would be receiving praise now. |
