And I'm a little perplexed by the narrative that Dubas should have done more.
No team survives having your top two goalies injured.
The cap is frozen (unexpectedly), and we are right up against it.
Should he have gone to the goalie store and picked up a #1 for $750,000, and not trade away assets to do so? - Atomic Wedgie
Um. YES. Pay attention to the will of the people! |

I've always liked what the Caps do. They keep drafting new guys to compete and use the competition for additional assets. Varlamov to Neuvirth to Holtby to Grubauer to Vanecek to Samsonov. They always have a new guy ready. |

I declare the accused (Big Save Dave) guilty of being so bad, even shots fired outside the net are going in.
His sentence will be 2 games on the bench until he can try and fail to redeem himself, hopefully against Montreal.

I know. My first thought was does that count as a shot on net |

come on...
it's been clear since a while Andersen was never the right guy.
took Dubas over a year (I think?) to pick up a decent backup after he gave away McElhinney..
During the last 2 years, there should have definitely been some opportunities to improve the goaltending for Dubas, not as if this were a new issue.

Likely wide, small chance post and in.
Regardless - horrific goal. |

Nope, Canucks are catching the Habs. You don’t think we went into Vancouver and lost those games by accident do you. Dubas is rightly terrified of playing Montreal and gifted the Nucks 4 points. 8 back with 4 games in hand.
That coughing you hear behind you Scabeh, they’re coming |

All joking aside.
Habs are not playing well enough to deserve a playoffs spot these days.
If Vancouver can manage to catch up and make it, kudos to them. Habs will only have themselves to blame.

Most of the North division isn't.
On a side note:
Dear North Division,
You're embarrassing me in front of my friends. Knock it off.
Kindly,

He should have done more in the offseason to address the clear need.

Meh. Let's be honest Rittich let in two softies in Hoglander and the 5th goal.
Aside from that, it feels like Keefe is looking towards the playoffs and what his line up might be and what the depth guys have to give. - Aaron_85
They might want to consider actually trying ot secure top spot in the division, becuase that slipping away fast.

out of the 4, only Campbell is an NHL backup.
and adding a backup doesnt address the issue with the starting goalie that continues to lose deciding playoff games. |

No, but his decisions around goaltending havent been great minus Campbell who is a solid backup. Andersen has been an issue in the playoffs for a couple years now, that should be obvious to Dubas.
I like Dubas for the most part, but he has not fixed an important issue. Hopefully Fredd can come back and be better, and well rested. |

My math may be wrong but it looks like:
Leafs S% = .906
Opponent S% = .912
That's... a problem. |

I mean, by this argument the only goalies you could acquire are cup winning goalies, of which you have Vasilevskiy, Binnington, Holtby, Murray and Crawford in the past 6 years. All other goalies in the league are losers who can't win deciding playoff games.
Of the goalies mentioned above, two would not be traded by their teams, and 3 either suck or have retired. If you really want, we could go further back and add in Quick and Thomas, but that just adds heaps into the suck and retired piles. |
