out of the 4, only Campbell is an NHL backup.
and adding a backup doesnt address the issue with the starting goalie that continues to lose deciding playoff games. - MaximusAurelius
Despite understanding where you're going with this, I'm not convinced there was a goaltender actually available to the Leafs that would have been considered an upgrade on Andersen.
With a similar cap hit of course.

I mean, by this argument the only goalies you could acquire are cup winning goalies, of which you have Vasilevskiy, Binnington, Holtby, Murray and Crawford in the past 6 years. All other goalies in the league are losers who can't win deciding playoff games.
Of the goalies mentioned above, two would not be traded by their teams, and 3 either suck or have retired. If you really want, we could go further back and add in Quick and Thomas, but that just adds heaps into the suck and retired piles. - Monkeypunk
there have been more goalies that have actually won a playoff series. |

He is probably laughing from his overpaid contract on a team that is no where near playoffs.
But I admire you for finding ways to enjoy watching your team when they aren't good. |

But don't you know that only goalies can win playoff series? The goalie has to win the series, not the players the Leaf goalie must "out goalie" the other goalie even if his team score no goals. Twice in 5 games.
No team in the history of hockey has ever won a playoff series with poor goal tending right?
Certainly not the Pittsburgh Penguins and they certainly didn't then go on to win the cup that very same year.....
And yes, I'm being cheeky and also have the Freddy Wife Defensive Shields Activated!

He was chuckling because one of his teammates told him they had just secured a fantastic tee time for the first day after the regular season ends.
I am an amateur lip reader and made him out to say "see, these Toronto losers can't even golf and we have a tee time already booked - what a bunch of loooooser!".
Followed by "Jesus their goalie sucks tonight". |

- Lehner has been available. (as a UFA - people laughed when I said Leafs should sign him as a backup before he joined the Islanders)
- Grubauer was available
- Holtby was available (on the cheap)
- Khudobin (similar level to Freddy, but seems the alcohol takes his playoff nerves away)
- Varlamov
- even Cam Talbot

You're probably going back alot because Lehner, Khudobin and Grubauer were not available last summer.
And for Lehner, before his run with Vegas last year, he was considered a huge gamble.
No indication Lou wanted to get rid of Varlamov either.
Holtby and Talbot are not better than Andersen. |

Fleury.
But then you'd have to figure out what to do with Andersen. |

Well that's what? 1.5M more in cap hit?
Love Fleury, but you guys would probably have run him out of town before he arrived.

Hopefully Bogosian is out short term as he has been a pleasant surprise. Keep Sandin up and play him on pp1 instead of Reilly. Get Hutton in the lineup asap and give Holl a rest as he is struggling right now.
Goaltending has to improve as no team in nhl is winning with the goaltending their getting right now. |

I think the main target in the offseason should be Gibson, see if they can pry him away from there. He doesnt fit their long term goals as they wont be good for a while. |

All this need Freddie back stuff. Yeah, I mean sure. But if he's the same poop sandwich when he comes back that he has been the last two years... What does it matter?
Both Rittich and Campbell, even when struggling... Have still posted better numbers than Andersen. Imagine that. 🤷🏻♂️ |

I don't think the ducks think they are that far away. If they did they would have sold more on their players at the deadline.
