Another guy rumored, and fits in nicely with the French ex player niche we like to covet, is Mathieu Darche. Don't know if he'd leave Tampa to come home, but it's an interesting thought.

yeah he was among the candidates that habs88888 listed, I was saying he seemed like the most interesting one... but yeah I guess if he's tired of being in a winning organization and wants a real challenge, perhaps he'll listen loll

Hains: Interesting Timing

Lost amongst the excitement of the Habs’ prized prospect NHL debut yesterday was the news that Patrick Roy is now represented by PBI Sports and may be looking to return to the NHL in a coaching or management role

- Karine Hains

Patrick Roy for GM and John Tortorella for head coach. Roy can translate for Torts.

A good article. Very thoughtful and insightful. I have long proposed Bergevin has failed the club and he needs to be removed ASAP, sooner if it were possible.

However, I strongly suggest Roy is not a suitable replacement, in fact he is utterly incompetent to be an NHL GM.

Those still in touch with Roy indicate his unchecked temper still burns far to hot to handle the responsibility. This is a fatal flaw, especially true for a team about to start a rebuild. [There is no alternative to rebuilding. Retooling does not work.] Roy unfortunately does not have enough patience for a rebuild; no patience to allow players to develop and no patience to for undeveloped players who fail. The impatience and poor planning of the Bergevin era demonstrate how this does not work.

A tempered and knowledge GM who can assemble an effective and responsible staff is essential for a successful rebuild. As much as I hate to say it, our upcoming playoff opponent has drafted and developed wisely. Following in similar footsteps is the best path forward. There is certainly many more favorable choices for GM, and I don't want to wait another 25 years for the team to hire one.

interesting blog Karine, but wouldn't you rather have Roy's intensity behind the bench, and leave the general managing tasks to someone else? (unless you give him the key to the city and let him play both roles, but I highly doubt that would be feasible/very wise in the NHL lol)
- Pat1993

I want Roy’s competitiveness and willingness to win in charge of deciding who is on the team and he wants to be the one to make the decisions. His fiery side might be a bit risky behind the bench and in front of the Mtl cameras, an issue you eliminate by giving him a front office job but he would still have access to the players if he had something to say lol. And thanks for telling that guy to get a grip

huh, I guess that makes sense, he wouldn't be "exposed" so much lol... and imagine if he gave Mario Tremblay another go as coach

and yeah I find it baffling when people never post anything here and all of a sudden come barging in with comments like these

Keeping him up until someone comes back from injury I think. He had a good game last night, only flaw was his collision with Gustaffson but what a play by Merrill to come back and save a possible goal. I love what Merrill brings in so far
