Maybe if I would have watched more than just the highlights, I would have known that.

It was one of those reverse dealies. He was coming out to challenge and Engval or someone braved for the hit and knocked him out of the game in the 3rd.

Very good. Poor Motter just can't stay in the line up.

Re: Jake

All this is even MORE of an indictment on Benning for not realizing just how bad his character was before he was drafted (even if the actual allegation is proven to be not true it's still a really bad look) that he would put himself into a position where someone could speak up and out about his behaviour. We all know that Jake was a partier and tended to play around with a lot of different women, so the old saying "Where there's smoke, there's fire" seems to apply here.

Either way, I've lost all respect for the Canucks and the organization for this mess from the top (FA/JB) to the bottom (Green/players who were close to/friends with Jake). I say this because there were other rumors about Jake's behaviour off-ice before this and I'd really hope this 'external expertise' manages to expose more than just the truth or untruth about these allegations and digs deeper into just how the organization failed on every level in regards to Virtanen.

He should have been traded or cut 2 years ago when it was clear he was never going to live up to his potential, why wasn't he? Why was he given a 2 year contract when everyone was saying the Canucks should have traded him when his value was at it's highest? Was it because they knew something like this was coming or could be coming and kept him to try and limit the damage? This kind of thing isn't usually a one-time thing, sexual misconduct is a pattern of behaviour, so I'm expecting other victims to come forwards.

Congratulations Benning, you drafted a player that's likely going to drag the organization's name, reputation and standing in the community down to nothing. If this doesn't get him fired, nothing will, and I defended Benning before but this is something that nobody should defend him for. From top to bottom, this is a really bad look for the team, and nobody should be exempt from blame.

Be safe out there my friends

Definitely a bummer. Hope it’s not true...but really...it probably is. Def a low time as a canucks fan for the last 30 years, that’s for sure.

Everyone is innocent until proven guilty, but sexual assault survivors are always liars until proven to be telling the truth?

I think everyone should just let the process take place.

The statement was about JV's character or lack thereof. Professional organizations do homework on a player's in all aspects before drafting them, especially high in the first round. We all knew he wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer even before this happened.

I care less about the actual allegation itself (not that I feel that it's unimportant, because sexual misconduct/assault should never be trivialized, but there's more at stake than this IMO) than the organizations failures along the way. You can't tell me the organization was completely unaware of Jake's behaviour off-ice. There were plenty of rumours about what he did during the off-season and he was always posting pictures of himself with women and partying in Vancouver nightclubs.

If they were aware, why were they willing to keep Jake in the organization this long, and give him chance after chance when it was clear that he wasn't maturing whether it be on-ice or off it? Were they afraid that once Jake left the organization, these sorts of things might come out and were trying to limit the damage? Was it just Benning being stubborn about wanting to be right about his first draft pick as a GM? What did the coaches, staff and players who were close and/or friends know about Jake's behaviour and did they do all they could to prevent it and report it or did they ignore it and hope that it'd work itself out.

I could care less about whether Jake is guilty or not, because it's irrelevant, if you're putting yourself into a position where someone could make an allegation, untrue or not, you've got a huge problem regardless through your own bad judgement and immaturity.

You are right in that they shouldn’t have gave him another contract. Agreed there

If these allegations hold up, It seems like a stretch to blame anyone else for this beyond JV.

I personally don't disagree at all. Jake has been a pompous arrogant c*nt since he was drafted. He's hasn't taken off seasons seriously, has been in the dog house every season to start the year, has sent the most arrogant messages to a woman online while using his NHL player status as clout. The kid is a jackass. How he impressed anyone in his draft interviews is beyond me. Regardless of what happens with this specific scenario, the guy is a loser and continues year after year with different instances of being a loser.
