Because i feel the best candidate should get the job not the best French speaking candidate. I write my blogs in both English and French because the Habs have fans who speak both of these languages and also because readers on Twitter asked me if I could possibly do it since their English wasn’t good enough to understand everything. One has nothing to do with the other, if you ask me. - Karine Hains
Well. I don’t think you should shame the team for doing the same thing you are doing... catering to one segment of fans. |

yes, because having French as a hiring criteria for the coaching position in MTL and writing a blog in both languages are exactly the same thing... réveille osti lol |

LOL they would cater to all fans if they hired the best man for the job. The coach’s number one job is to win, not to communicate with the fans. There are journalists for that. |

There are plenty of quality coaches that speak french.
Now I'm all for getting the best possible person for the job, and if a candidate is obviously better, despite him not speaking french, the Habs should highly consider getting that candidate. The results will tell the whole story afterwards.
This being said, I don't remember a moment where such a possibility was THAT obvious. If you can hire a quality coach that can also communicate with the whole fanbase, why shouldn't you do it?
I'm sure the team's results would have been very similar these last few years if we replaced Therrien/Julien/Ducharme with another coach, because the players involved would remain the same. |

At the end of the day there is no "hero" coach. Coach Q finally has Florida playing well, but last year they were mediocre again. Is his influence a big reason? Undoubtedly, but so is player development, new looks, circumstances etc.
The optics of the situation in Montreal are much worse than the reality.
Nobody will hire Swedish/Finnish/Russian etc. coaches and nobody seems to give a poop about that despite the "talent pool." |

People were screaming for the Habs to hire Babcock just before the Leafs did.
I also remember the same thing for Dan Bylsma when he was hired by Buffalo. Where are they now? |

there are clearly coaches who are able to get the best out of their rosters but i think they are few and far between. i think Barry Trotz is now the gold standard for that. Quenneville is another good example. Panthers were pretty solid when the season ended last year despite goaltending being a huge issue. and i still Torts, as batpoop as he is, gets more out of his rosters than anyone else would.

Trotz does seem to be as close as we come to that ideal. Though it is interesting that it's always framed as him elevating teams that aren't as good. I wonder how much of it is Mitch Korn who is the goalie coach he has worked with most of his career. How many Vezina level goalie performances has he been able to get out of the dozens of goalies on his teams? It's kind of nuts. (frank) Korn was Hasek's goalie coach during his destroying phase. |

you never know. at some point the Leafs are going to power it down a bit here in the final 5-6 games. they could be vulnerable. |

hopefully not. we keep most of them out in the shop. although we hired 2 girls out of high school and they're both covidiots. no masks. you know the type. one of them has an uncle that died from it and i've never seen her with a mask on even one time. |

they get to pick who they want in the first round...take it easy and allow MTL to jump over WPG or beat up MTL a few more times and increase the odds of playing them in the first round. They decide how they want to do this |
