2.5-3 mil is my guess. AND perhaps a pick/prospect. Which begs the question: is it worth it? That freed up 5-6 million is not going to be enough to get a star player. - PT21
I think it is, the Flyers could use 5-6M to get a player that better fits the forward needs on this team, more shoot first, more speed, more toughness, more 200 foot play. |

Moving two high paid players and taking salary back for multiple seasons for both doesn’t make sense. You might as well keep them. - SuperSchennBros
It does make sense if you are trying to change the culture on the team.

Your the gm. What’s the first move you make this off-season? - GPerogie
If Jake doesn’t get taken, I look for a hockey trade for comparable salary and term. Not sure if that’s out there though. Could sweeten it with retained salary or lower picks.
See if we can move ghost but I don’t look at a buyout or retained salary.
At the draft look for a Bonafide top pair dman. Right handed shot. Over pay if we need to. That’s the main priority. I don’t love any of the ufa options. I think Hamilton could help, but I don’t know if he’s the top pair guy we need with provy.
I’m ok to bring back moose with the hopes that we hart bounces back and plays most of the games. I think Moose can be fine with starting like 25 percent of the games. More and he’s exposed.
I think the chemistry of the team really needs to be fixed and some core vets have to move but it may not be easy. |

There is something to be said for this. Joe Mullen was assistant coach from 2007-2017 and 9 out of the 10 seasons (I skipped 2007 because it was his first year) the Flyers had an above average PP compared to the league average. Its been below average 2 out of the past 3 seasons since. I think coaching is important, but I still feel talent is more important when it comes to the PP. - jd250

Yes. I do think we have good players where we should have a much special teams. Giroux, Voracek, JvR and Ghost have always specialized offensive ability on the PP. I don’t know why you feel this way. - SuperSchennBros
I think this group a few years ago were good players and did produce an above average PP, but they are not that any more. Giroux is no longer that sniper on the PP he once was. Jake is just pass happy and a turnover machine, JVR does nothing but deflect pucks and Ghost struggles as the QB of the PP to get pucks through to the net where JVR can deflect them. This group has created a very predictable PP that has become easy to defend, over passes and whose primary strategy is to get pucks to the point; they never attack the center of the ice and utilize an effective pivot. Case in point, the Flyers had a 4 minute PP against the Devils and only got 1 shot on goal, and in a recent two man advantage gave up a short handed break away.

Mullen seemed to change up the looks and adjusted to the personnel he had. In his tenure there was a lot of changeover. Different coaches. Some good teams and a poor one in there too and he always found a way to make it work. Hard to think it’s just luck. The coaches need the players to be good and the players can use good coaching to put them in shoes to succeed |

There are a few free agents that I think the Flyers should seriously consider in this price range that would increase their speed, toughness and leadership up front.
Nick Foligno
Jayden Schwartz
Brandon Saad
On defense, here are two FAs I would seriously consider for the Flyers.
Mike Reilly - done a great job on Boston since the deadline, good puck moving player
Adam Larsson - increases toughness and defensive play in your own end |

There’s really nothing out there for Jake, a guy like okposo is just trash at this point and then someone like Parise is longer and higher cap hit. It is what it is at this point. |

I’d entertain sadd on a short to mid term deal on not a raise. Feel like he would fit in with G, he hasn’t had a tough go to the net guy for a while. All depends on if we can move salary out tho |

Guys...
This is the third time I’ve read this.
Teams, especially good teams aren’t going to or can’t just simply suck up a 4.5 million dollar deal mid season with multiple seasons on it, just because they can get it for free. Not many teams want to add salary at all. Ghost is an offseason move if he moves at all. - SuperSchennBros
Its not rocket science.

You've just explained why he wasn't "free" when he was waived.

Bill, do you think that Comcast would ever consider selling the team? I am not a fan of corporate ownership. Just feel like there is no one ultimately responsible for the product. I would love to see a private ownership group take over. Don't think we'll ever get as good of an owner as Snider, but just want someone with a passion for the game and the authority to drive accountability within this organization.

Trade Provy. I like Provy... but he may be the single most over rated player on the team. His "fancy stats" actually match the eye test...in that... he's a "good" defenceman... he's not a #1...and i don't think hes really even a top pairing guy. We love him because hes ALWAYS playing, he logs a ton of minutes, he plays every game, and his offseasons are stuff of legend. But... he's totally over-rated. If you need a #1 guy to pair with your #1 guy... to make him a #1 guy... ummm... he's not a #1 guy. He can't QB a PP, he's not really an outlet guy, he's a turn-over machine some nights, hes not a burner, he's not overly physical, sometimes his hands and feet look brick-like... and he occasionally suffers from Hartnell-Down disease. Again... i know it sounds like I'm bashing him... I'm not trying to. I'm just being honest. I think EVERYONE over values him and we could probably get an amazing package for him. Does that make us weaker in our weakest area? Yeah... but sometimes you have to take a step or two back to make a leap forward. |

Interesting suggestions. I like foligno for sure. Larsson as well, as a depth guy. Who do you want us to target for that top pair dman? |
