Nobody is giving up a d man of any value for Jake’s poopty contract as one of the returns.
We either trade him with significant money retained, take back other trash contracts or are stuck with him. All more reason to make sure JVR and Ghost’s contracts gets moved this summer. - hereticpride
I didn’t say I thought it was likely. I just don’t want to use a protection spot on him; it doesn’t make good sense. |

To not expose Jake and JVR’s contracts would be unbelievably foolish. They need room for another quality center, a top pair D and an upgrade at backup goalie. Those things are not coming for free. - BiggE
We’ll see what the decision is on JVR; he has a lower AAV and a year less than Voracek’s.
I hope you didn’t put the above in your order of importance. The top pair RHD is a must have. I really hope that it’s not a one year stopgap this time.

I’ve seen about enough of this stuff, the goaltending wasn’t good but the play in front of them was just as bad. You can’t watch these games and actually think we would have been fine with average goaltending can you? - ClaudeFather
I believe the defense stunk this year as it did last season playoffs. And no, we were not winning any playoff games with average goaltending. And by defense I mean TEAM defense as well as the poor play of the 6 guys called defensemen. There were way too many turnovers and missed assignments, as well as WEAK play when actually covering an opponent in scoring position. As Bill said, defense let the team down and then the goalies just broke under the pressure. Both are to blame. I just see most of the current blame on the d corps and less on the crap offense for 2nd half of season and poor goal tending.
But the numbers are the numbers and -25 goals saved above expectations is the 4th worse goalie season by this stat in last 15 years for all goalies on all teams. The numbers are worse I believe adding our other goalies. While the stat can be debated, it's not completely irrelevant. I am just noting this horrific number.
I believe Hart will recover and be a solid NHL goalie for a long time. And I expect that we will get a solid #2 from the prospects. It was a crazy year with waves of incompetence in one aspect of game bleeding into other aspects. And I do believe the offense sputter in last 5 or 6 weeks was impacted by losing from poor defense and goaltending. Next year will be a fresh start and Hart should come back with more confidence and skill. Maybe even Myers will study tons of film in the offseason and return with a clue while Frost spends some time in gym adding some armor(muscle) to his slight frame. A boy can dream can't he? |

Interview in its entirety says he and Fletch like the core, and see the core as responsible for last year's success, and the downturn due to Niskanen leaving and bad goaltending.
So expect the protected list to include Jake and JvR.

Two of the most recent games against the Devils were ones the Flyers may have won with even average goaltending. In general, team D dragged down the goaltending first and then the goaltending, in turn, dragged down most everything else. - bmeltzer
The two most recent games meant absolutely nothing, they could have won games when they were already out of the playoffs, who cares. When it counted the entire team was a dysfunctional mess and they won some games earlier on because they were scoring goals at a good clip. That ran out and you saw spiral down the standings. |

Teams would take Jake in a heart beat but the thing is because of the Flat cap they are gonna want to send Salary back and thats going to be in the form of a worse player on a worse contract most likely. Despite Jake's Flaws he is still a top line player not to mention one of the more consistent players this season.

This makes absolutely no sense. The fact that we could have won games while being eliminated doesnt change the fact that Goaltending has costed them games. The fact is when you score the 1st goal, 75% of the time you win. That is an actual stat. Goalies have often surrendered the 1st goal on weak plays. The placement of the games makes no difference. The D hasnt done the Goalies any favours but the reverse can be said as well. We are not getting timely saves and we are allowing weak goals especially to start games.

Some GREAT real life data to cheer you up from Canada:
Data from Canada today
As of April 26, only 2274 Covid cases among those who had received at least 1 shot and were 14 days past vaccination. Among those only 203 hospitalizations and 53 deaths, almost all among the over 80.
14 days past Covid vaccine would make the earliest day of vaccinations before April 26 to be April 12. Assuming 12 days further before that for data reporting administrative delays, time for people to fall sick and die, this would make April 1 about a reasonable latest Covid vaccine date for those in the data set.
Well, there were 5 million people vaccinated by that date, almost all the elderly
This means ( mother(frank)ing drum roll):
1. Once vaccinated, the infection rate was only 1 in twenty five hundred.
2. Once vaccinated, the Covid hospitalization rates was 1 in twenty five thousand
3. Once vaccinated, the Covid death ratio was 1 in hundred thousand.
Look at the last 2 again. These are rates for the elderly, folks. Rates for the general population would be much lower, roughly one in a million chances.
This is real life data, folks. Not from a lab, not from a trial. From a society similar to the USA in most relevant ways.
The vaccine effective %s reported in the press are often about preventing infection. Well, the vaccines seem to be very good at that. But what goes sometimes unnoticed is that the % chances of preventing not just infection but serious illness or death are almost 100%. |

They shut down Hart for the year and have been rolling out Alex Lyon and the corpse of Brian Elliot who has been asked to play too many games. These games mean absolutely nothing, maybe a couple of guys can end on a good note but from a goaltending perspective Brian elliot and Alex Lyons play mean jack squat. Do you think either will be on the nhl team next year? The first goal you say huh, how many times has this team sleep walked through the first period? |

and yet teachers do not want to teach students in a classroom setting 5 days a week and the commander in chief wears two masks while socially distanced outside, in direct contrast of the science and the cdc's guidance.
The bolded part is not anything new to those who actually follow the science and don't virtue signal or try to scare/bully people into submission. There is no reason for any local municipality, city, or state to have any kind of mask mandate or any part of their economies shut down

I do wish he would one time some of those passes, instead of limiting himself to passing off so often....just to change it up a bit. To score 14 goals on the PP he was shooting the puck with far more regularity. |

While I think he will be exposed there is an outside shot he doesn’t. If the flyers can fill their holes and get that mix right where JVR fits, then you keep him

Actually I think G should rotate to being that sniper unless they have a better option. I could see him with his next contract needing to take on a different role a d he has a really good shot |

Any news like this is good. Hopefully our numbers will continue to trend down, in this the 3rd waive....rather sick of this stay at home order. The more vaccinations the better. We got great news today about millions more vaccines arriving.

I think they will have to make their main move via trade. I don't think Hamilton is coming here as a UFA.
They might be able to sign someone such as Alec Martinez, but he's having a really good year in Vegas and is 33 years old. It'd be a risky signing with a high-risk of overpaying for something he likely would not replicate here.
