Bad players would play good is the only thing I can think of these posts mean? - rpeters01
I don't even like Colliton. I'm not defending the coach. I'm trying to figure out how you identify an adjustment vs players just doing what they are supposed to.
I don't personally think that Colliton has gotten the most out of this group. I think over the course of 50-whatever games the team should be able to play as a more cohesive unit and not still be arguing with each other over who should be covering the slot DURING PLAY.
I give a little leeway due to the roster. Outside of that, I think he is a prototypical placeholder coach until they figure everything else out. He's cheap, does exactly what the FO wants, and doesn't make any noise. Again, they gave him a new contract BEFORE the season started. He is doing exactly what they want right now.
And no - I'm not yelling at you. Just angry because my 3D printer just took a crap and now I have to fix it. |

I don't understand JCs defense, but I'm not going to poop on him until he gets some actual NHL dmen, watching Z, deHaan, Murphy, is so frustrating and their record would of been even worse if Lanky didn't stand on his head, unfortunately like many inexperienced goalies they get on their knees earlier and earlier as the season goes on and the forwards start hitting the bigger net from further out

We have seen 2 games against Carolina. Here is the difference in defense. When the Carolina defense gets the puck in the defensive zone, it gets out, either by direct pass, off the boards, or a flip to center ice. The Hawks struggle doing any of the 3, and they end up running around trying to cover up for each other.

Feels like there's kind of a Paul Maurice thing going on with Colliton.
Is he a bad coach or does he just have a shifty team?
From the outside, I'd say he's a decent coach that's still learning, but is hampered by a team stuck in a real weird spot where his team has a few guys that are too young, a few guys that are too old, and the guy that's supposed to be leading them all has just straight up vanished.
Not having your captain to lean on to help pull everybody together can be a pretty tough spot. |

I completely agree and to Chunks point we won't see any stability until our blue line babies develop |

So here is my bottom line, which I have stated several times:
He hasn’t proven to me that he can be a coach of a Cup-contender in the NHL.
Maybe to you and the rest of the hockey world he has, maybe I’m completely wrong, but he hasn’t proven it one way or the other.
Two-and-one-half seasons without a real playoff finish - bad players to coach, certainly, teams that SHOULDN’T have made the tournament - not his fault, OK.
But my belief is that he hasn’t proven that he can coach a Cup-contender - or that he can’t. Not enough evidence.
So this “kid” isn’t bashing him, hasn’t bashed him (criticized, yes, not bashed), hasn’t called for his head (like many others here) - just not ready to give him a 10-year contract confident that he’s the guy. - StLBravesFan
I just spelled out my thoughts on JC at the top of the page. I certainly do not think he is a Cup-contending coach, and never have. I don't think the Hawks should give him another contract until he shows that he can get an entire team to play consistently.
You were specific in saying you haven't seen him make any in-game adjustments. My (I thought rational) question was "what does an in game adjustment look like?" "How can you tell one was or wasn't made?" I've never been able to pinpoint one other than during the playoff series vs. ANA years back Q started taking Toews off the ice immediately after a face-off to get him away from specific players.
I'm pressing here because I want to know more, not to be a Richard.

Chunk, I don’t have an answer, other than I’ve seen a team that has been dominated on the ice too many times without being able to turn things around. Not Colliton’s fault? OK, but I haven’t seen the turnaround.
They still have to make too many stretch passes out of the zone because the forwards can’t (or won’t) get in position to get the short quick pass turned into the transition. Not Colliton’s fault? I don’t know - but he hasn’t proven that he can fix it - hasn’t proven that he can’t - not enough evidence.
For one last time: he hasn’t proven anything to me yet, one way or another, that he is or will be a good bench coach.
I can’t give my position any more than that. |

He is a failure ! I would take Mark Crawford over our current failure of a coach Mr. Roger's. - GlennL
Who called him a success? I'll wait.
Took over for Q midseason, played a shortened Covid season & took them further in the playoffs than most thought & this season against 7 teams (not the entire league) once was battling for a top seed & started leveling off to normal, which is this because it's a rebuild. Mathematically eliminated with 5 left is more & better than everyone thought. Plenty of things to be happy with, but maybe not in your case. I'll be patient instead of flying off the handle. |

Bread it really wouldn’t of mattered who they selected as coach. It’s the crowd that thinks that Stan is a bad GM, because players had to be traded due to cap issues, and he is still here, and he fired Q.

Tear it Down
Cannot believe I'm saying this but if the Hawks wish to contend for the Cup in the next 10 years a complete tear down for picks & prospects is required.
our heroes from 2010-2013 & 2015 need to go. Not easy , but Kane -Toews -Keith & others need to go for long term options
Retain salary - but do what it takes to restock & rebuild if it's not too late🤦♂️
Trying to retool will result in mediocre results & delay the inevitable

I guess? I dunno. It always smacked of a poor decision to me, and an even poorer one when they got rid of him the way they did. - BINGO!
Bingo, when you win multiple cups, you end up paying for those who helped in the process. The Cane’s have a lot of talent and are well coached, hopefully one day you’ll be able to understand. |

Whom does Seattle select from Carolina in The Expansion Draft? Bean. A few descent forwards Fogole, others. Carolina would wish Gardiner. |

These guys have all the power regarding whether or not they move anywhere. They've turned over the entire rest of the team already. So you want to start over again?

this off season is another big off season we have allot of avg pieces how do we get some real top 6 and top 3 players on the ice. is it Borgstrom? rechel? nylander? is Shalunov a bigger sniper. we could use more size. can lankenen build on this season and end up more like.915 or so? in the draft we sit at 12 but we have a real shot of moving up to 10 if LA and Calgary wing a few games and we keep playing like we are. is there a chance that the cancel the last 3-4 calgary vancouver games? they play 3games after the whole season is over.
what do we do with ZAD, Strome, do we bring RFA Suter and Kampf? can we move Dehaan or connely. will teows come back. if he is not feeling better by EXP draft does he waive for the EXP draft? who do we lose in EXP draft.
side not looked at the BOX score tonight kane had 2 assists and he was -4? that is hard to do. strome was a -5 WOW. |

The thing I have noticed about the Hawks especially on defense is a real lack of structure especially for a young team with very little chemistry playing together. Is that on Colliton, the players, or a combination of both? I am also beginning to think the Hawks over hyped Mitchell kind of like they did with Sikura. I hope not but.... - FourOrr
Is Mitchell's play that much of a surprise to you? The kid belongs in the AHL playing major minutes learning the pro game under a good coach as he gets stronger and adjusted to playing against men every night. Playing him in the NHL now just highlights to the kid what a huge difference there is between the big boy league and the frat boy weekend loop he came from. And if his feelings are hurt playing in Rockford, tough sh$t. But I suppose its Colliton's fault - he hasn't turned Mitchell into Nik Lidstrom or Ray Bourque in 20 games. |

New blog! A recap of the Blackhawks somewhat stronger game versus the Hurricanes yet with the same outcome and same exposure of team flaws.
On a good note, Hardman and Entwistle registered their first NHL points.
