So here is the Colorado Avalanche standings since 2009 (remember the Hawks won 3 cups during this time) until 2019. Sakic came on in 2013. Starting with 2009
28th
12th
29th
28th
3rd
21st
21st
30th
17th
17th.
Finally in 2020 they were 3rd overall, and this year one of the best.
The hawks in 2017 were 3rd overall (then the disaster sweep by Nashville in round 1, Since 2018. 25th, 20th, 23rd and this year probably around 18th.
How big is the ledge to withstand 6 more years of mediocre at best teams until they can draft and develop a new core?

Wednesday evening at 6 central, NYR and WSH game on NBCSN. Must watch hockey. - boilermaker100
I'll be watching.....
When the strike ended, Jamal Mayers going at with Torres sends a great message to the team after that BS hit he did the year before in the playoffs. Rangers are out of it, game means ZILCH to them....you end it now and move forward.
I know Torres answered the bell, and great for him, but that's where guys like Mayers, Scott had a role..... |

In fairness didnt they sell off of on Stasny, Duchene, OReilly during this time?
Those are 3 decent pieces to a rebuild who for whatever reason went elsewhere.....OReilly especially......
I don't see it being another 6 years....I think in 2-3 years from now, they should be a playoff contender and will likely need to add a piece solidfy it...
That's my expectation...at least.

That's not really a logical question. It could be less than 6 years or more. Buffalo and EDM haven't been competitive in ages. It all depends on how their prospects develop, and which FA's/trades they win.

did you guys hear Seabs say that Hamilton is going to be overpaid at $8 X 7. the last 2 years he has had 82 pts in 99 games with a + 51. Career 56% possesion Numbers. and will be 28 when the contract starts. But im sure he would say seabs at 31 deserved $7 X 8. I like giving guys long term deals at 27/28 way more then 31
if we were able to move Dehaan and keith I would consider hamilton. no idea what it would take. we need a few difference makers. Who on our team would be top 4 on D in carolina? who on our team would be top 6? kane yes CAT (maybe but maybe not if kane was already in the top 6) |

But no goon ever deterred Torres from his act. I like the idea of standing up for a teammate - good for morale. But the goon as a deterrent? Doesn't do much. |

My point is there are many that think a different coach would have them in the playoffs this year and ready to compete. That no progress made. Unless we sprinkle what we have with pixie dust, the best coach in the world wouldn't lead this team to the playoffs.

Anybody with a fully developed brain and a conscious? But then maybe it’s my fault for “expecting” the league to do the right thing…they rarely do. |

Hamilton is not a difference maker on a rebuilding team. Right now, I would not give any UFA $8 mil. let alone for any term. Use our cap space to acquire future assets.

Exception to every "rule" I give you the legendary Dave Semenko was solely there to not have teams F with Gretzky early on.
Another one was Probert in Detroit who actually could play, but he also kept teams from destroying Yzerman. |

It helps they bottomed out the year MacKinnon was available and traded Duchene to Ottawa for what turned out to be Makar I believe. Helps to be in the right place at the right time.
Also as long as the Hawks are an over achieving team (nothing wrong with that I guess) they'll be drafting in the 12-20 range where lesser talents will be available.

Agree 100%.
Teams need to have a minimum 4-5 players whom without prodding will lay Wilson out with a thunderous check. You have to go after him, several players.
The Gordie Howe stick in the ribs etc al is also next if Wilson keeps that behavior alive. Police your own game. The ultimate measure is an eye for an eye.. and maybe then some.. ..which is not the way a civilized society should act... But when a nutcase like Wilson continues patrolling NHL rinks....and league penalties have not deterred him...Go knock out their star players.. Eventually Wilson changes his behavior or the entire league gets him good.
Something is wrong with Wilson's behavior and he must learn it is not worth playing dangerously with the lives of players.
Alternatively you could hold a news conference and invite the Players association and Bettman & company. Tell them either they force Wilson to change his behavior or there is going to be a terrible price all players face if Wilson continues to be a repeat offender |

He should have been suspended just for his actions in the penalty box. |

Maybe the Rags can sign the Hansen brothers for a game to replace those three. |

Hold a news conference and demand Bettman force Wilson to undergo a psychological examination. Announce that lawsuits are forthcoming if Wilson behavior crosses the line of competitive decency. |

I would expect more from you. Especially from the league that hired Pronger when he was still a player.

100% very timid to the corner.....he plays smaller than his size which isnt saying a lot. That's my major concern about him, which as you said, will likely lead to a short career if he doesn't learn how to use his stick to move the puck to avoid being smoked which made Keith so good for long. - SteveRain
Ehhhh not really he was fine all season until he took a puck to the face, the team took a long precaution and held him out just in case and the broken wrist happened because that wiener Cernak threw his elbow out and for what its worth it happened in the offensive zone |

Lucic to waive his NMC to allow the Flames to protect another forward. Seattle probably won't select him anyway. |

Yeah. FLA fans point to the trade as a needed wake-up call but I dunno. When you trade a guy like that you should probably get back at least one piece that plays on your NHL team the next year. - BINGO!
Uhhhmmm they got Luostarinen lol. Idk, Q always talks about “playing the right way”, at times Vinny didn’t seem to be getting that. Combine that with a desperate to save his job Tallon, and voila. Now, Vinny returns to stick daggers in FL every fukking game they play. Lol. Having said that, I’m all good with how things are turning out since Zito took over as GM. |

To quote the late Dennis Green "They were who we thought they were".
The Hawks are the 6th best team in an 8-team division. They are clearly better than the 2 teams below them, marginally below DAL and clearly below the 4 playoff-bound teams.
Did they falter down the stretch? I would argue that the schedule simply was harder. In the 1st half, they had 12 combined games against the two teams that they could consistently beat. That number fell to 4 in the 2nd half.
Assuming that they lose out (how will DAL respond after they are eliminated?), they end up with 50 pts...that sure is more than I expected after losing Toews & Dach at the beginning.

All four officials should be suspended for the rest of the year. 4 minutes for roughing? At least one referee was staring right at it. should of been given a match penalty, and then as a repeat offender would of had to be suspended, for even longer than the 7 games he was in March.
You can't say he wasn't targeting the head. |

The schedule was skewed this year. Wonder how they would fare next year assuming a normal schedule.
The good news is that they'll play FLA TB CAR 6 times next year instead of 24.The bad news is next year they'll play the Wings and Jackets 4 times instead of 16, along with an additional 5 or 6 each against COL, WPG, STL and MIN. There will also be a few of those California and Western Canada trips they haven't done too well on in recent years. |
