Hello, Savvy! Good to see you again. - mohel
Hello Mo (and D), good to be seen.
No reason for any to get their shorts in a knot while the team is in this mode. It's going to be a while before we can even think of another Cup.
Glad there are some new faces to cheer (like Hagel, Kalynuk, Dach, Lanky).

Ha, it's good to be missed!
SR, hope you are well. Been quite a year+ for everyone, holding out hope that by year's end, things will be close to back to normal.
I read through most of Theo's blogs and the comments are still a hoot.
Yes, I'm still Nick's uncle or Dad or cousin or best friend (or whatever you imagine).
Way too early in this rebuild to really make much out of it, some of the new guys are definitely keepers (Kalynuk, Hagel, Suter, Kurashev, Lankinen) but others I don't think they have what it takes.
Hawks oversold on Mitchell, Bovquist (way oversold IMO - here's a guy that is essentially not league average in terms of speed and definitely not a world class skater by any measure which is why he has continued to get rung up).
And only Blowman could lose the Saad trade multiple times, this time for a big, dumb Russian that so reminds me of a guy I was forced to skate on a D pair with far too often that I quit that team. I can easily see Blowman giving him more $ and term when he should try to trade for a pick or warm body -- or at the very least, not QO him and simply let him go.
Similarly, another guy I hope goes is Murphy. Might be a good team guy but in way over his head and his skating is certainly no better than when he arrived.
Kalynuk has impressed me thus far - better than average speed and a VG skater. Seems relatively smart with the puck, I think he might have the best chance of becoming a top pair guy. Like always, time will tell.
Like you SR, I am not at all surprised no playoffs this year. Tough to play those same teams ONLY within your division over and over and over. And really wondering if the Toews absence was more due to how the league dealt w/Covid versus any real or imagined illness. We may never know, just hope the guy is OK, regardless of whether he is back. If he doesn't return, Blowman has way more to fix. After reading some of the rumors/speculation here and then reading about Mongo, sure hope that rumor is patently untrue. Would not wish that sentence on anyone.
Stay well, I might try to hang out a little more often although the company I work for was just sold to a venture cap group so the thought of retirement is looking more attractive with each meeting I have to attend. - savvyone-1
Miss that avatar popping up on the thread numerous times like the old days....some other old timers like Endzo, not always agreed with him, but respected his opinion(s).
I haven't personally checked out the RINK. True story....a team I played for in a higher division had Osborn sub for us a few times, he's as fiery in person as he is in that blog. Haven't read the rink in quite some time......
I got calling out bowman at the end of the run as the system was depleted but the narrative grew tiresome for me as the rebuild was on and seeing some of the guys you listed think the process is evolving in the right direction.
I don't mind Beaudin, Mitchell, and I am hoping Boqvist figures it out and can be a mix of Campbell and Keith and a top 4 pairing. Mitchell....I am hoping for the best. large stretches early on I liked his game and hoping he hit the wall and will be back better with better conditioning...something hopefully all the young D men work on....not sure they can be a genetic freak like Keith but they all need to continue to improve.
Glad to hear you are well.....vent cap groups and their non stop love affair with EBITDA grows tiresome......love to have them some meetings (virtual or in person) and the conference calls......gods speed.

Rangers fire John Davidson and Jeff Gorton. Promote Chris Drury into both roles. NYR claiming that this has no connection to the team statement calling out NHL DPS yesterday. |

Some don’t need a reason to get their shorts in a knot, they just feel better when they are.
Good luck if you retire. I retired eleven months ago. I missed work for about six months and now I can’t understand why I did? |

Thanks Paul - one of my best friends said the same thing about retirement. I don't think I'll miss it much -- too many hours and too much time. It's served its purpose (put the kids through college w/no debt), saved for retirement. Just seems like the universe is telling me time to move on.
Hope you are able to enjoy your R time. Have heard way too many stories of guys that wait too long, hang on and then boom, get sick at the end or shortly after finally retiring and gone before they can enjoy anything. |

Funny you say that. I developed an autoimmune disease and was on short term disability when the company decided to package out all the people who were eligible for retirement but hadn’t. I had been eligible for four years but still enjoyed working and was paddling my pension. So I lucked out, I got a really good package and it came at the right time. The last year I have getting great medical support and am feeling better by the day and am starting to enjoy retirement. Even though the lockdowns have left me with (frank) all to do. |

Every draft class I fall in love with some prospect I think the hawks may have a shot at and I hope that they get.
This year I expected us selecting much lower and am very happy with where we will draft and I find a kid I barely spent time on and I REALLY like his carrying ability...
Fabian Lysell
A potent point generating Swede who already competes with the 20 year old class and can be a game changer. You can see how this slippery this undersized right winger can change a game with one of his Kane-like dangles that has him weaving through traffic, pulling coverage to him, and firing the puck is off his stick and breaking the game open. When a teammate has it, he uses his above-average speed to weave into open areas to receive pucks. His feet and hands and creativity are why he didn’t struggle as an under-ager at the U18 level in Sweden. Displays high end vision, anticipation and has been able to make the most of the opposition’s blown overages and errors in their positioning. He is an exceptional skater, and tremendous stickhandler with strong edgework to create looks. He possesses a good quick hard wrist shot and high end thread the needle passing skills. His success is derived from his speed and edging and how he slashes through coverage and seems to always be in a good position to do damage in the attack zone. His skating mechanics are outstanding, with a 90 degree knee bend, forward hip tilt and ankle flexes. Some think he never comes out of top gear, and looks like the guy you want with the puck in transitions and zone entries. His skating and moves and so varies and difficult to "guess" that he causes uneasiness in the opposition too commit and they tend to back off.He displays a nice toe-drag, and big time release that catches goalies unaware. He doesn’t need much time or space to change a game's outcome. And although he seems to be a fixture in the attack zone, he also does an admirably job at covering his man. He will use both his stick to attempt steals and disrupt passes. He will have to get a lot stronger to help add to his defensive game and add to his attacking prowess. And it would be great to see him add using a middle-paced gear a bit to his toolkit of deception. Still more of a playmaker than scorer as his shot lacks significant power and flex, but maybe that comes. You draft this guy and he is guy leading rushes. |

Happy to hear you are able to get good med care and are able to enjoy some of your free time. Lockdown sucks but hopefully it will be over soon (or relatively soon).
I send good vibes your way.
My grandfather passed away within a year of retirement at 62 and although I was only 11 at the time, it stuck with me.
Gone way too soon. He had a lot of experience to teach me more about cars, engines and all sorts of mechanical stuff - guy was a wizard. I've picked up some along the way (genetics I guess) and get a kick out of wrenching, building, etc. I'm sure I'll find plenty to do away from work so not too worried about that.
Hockey is a great diversion (our league has been shut for over a year and I hope to be able to go back by fall. I've skated a few times since just to keep in touch with what I've loved for so long. |

Can the hawks hire them both looks like they did pretty good job in NEW York? Davidson President of hockey operations and gorton as gm bowman as solely as vice president of blackhawks organization as an overseer. Doubt it happens i ll stop now too much whiskey. |

Good Job how? Gorton has been the Gm since 2015 and they have made the playoffs twice and not sine '16-17. Took a team that lost in the stanley cup and conference finals the previous 2 seasons and turned it into what? |

Sorry, that was sarcasm. NYR have a good team in theory if everyone develops. Until then, they are Edmonton of the last 10 years. |

Agree gorton built a good team and prospect pool but its now to take the next step. Maybe upper management were thinking they shoulda made the playoffs this year plus bashing the the nhl didn't not help. They need a number one center and some sandpaper on the team like the blackhawks imo i say dach would be a better winger than center. Its going to take sometime for the hawks to be a regular playoff team and contend for the cup but the future is looking good in some areas but trending in the right way. |

Go rookies - BetweenTheDots
Indeed. It's almost like this has been said here before.
As a result, the Hawks lead the league in games played by rookies, with 277 entering Tuesday. Two other teams — the Devils with 261 and the Senators with 211 — exceeded 200. Not surprisingly, none of the top five teams in this category will make the playoffs. |
