There are 5 players that I think will look really good. Maybe 6. I just think at 6. Trading down nets you two good pieces instead one a little bit better.
Say a #2 defender or 70-80 ppg forward vs picking up two 45-50 point forwards or a 55 forward and #3 defender. - manvanfan
Trading down nets you an additional 3rd or 2nd depending on how far down you go. It is more of do you want a #2 defender or 70-80pt forward or a 45-50 point forward/#3 or 4 defender and whatever is available in the late 2nd or early 3rd?
I take the #2 defender or 70-80 point guy all day, every day. |

Jim was ready to trade down to get him. Nashville was trying to grab a top 3 pick for him.
The team has many needs. I believe in BPA to a point. You can't be the oilers and draft soft scoring forwards or like the Canucks ignoring RHD the entire time. If one isn't there why would you reach. - manvanfan
100% correct. There is a time and place for BPA and this isn't one of them. |

Rush for sure but I know a lot of cool chicks who love Neil Young. I've learned most of his songs on my acoustic here and it's a hit. Chicks dig the guitar man... - LordHumungous
I didn't know if it was bad luck or not, so I wound up marrying the one I found who likes both. Yes the ladies love the guitar, but they have to be really cool to put up with the noise a Drummer makes.

You can also trade later. I'd rather JB draft then trade. |

BPA is always the answer. Teams always want a scoring winger, or a top 4 dman. Easier to trade for a need with a high value player, than use a high value pick to get a future, or current, need. You just can't screw it up like Chiapet did with Hall for Larsson.
JV was drafted partially because FA wanted a local bow to draw in fans and because of his power forward skillset. We would have been much better off getting a scoring forward at 6 and then a power forward at 24 that year. |

Hopefully an obvious one that doesn't require much thinking.
Makes it easier, like for some posters here. |

Nobody was talking about trading down to 24. |

Good thing they have capable people in the organization who can step into these roles.

lol when the Oilers were one win away from the conference final and Hall was golfing that Chiarelli deal didn't look so bad then. Now Hall has been a cancer basically everywhere he goes. BPA is fine if you are picking top 5 alot but outside of that it's tough. JV was a miss to be sure but OJ will turn out to be an excellent pick. Lots of hits and misses. JV was also rated very high regardless of FA. Gotta be careful or you will land a few JV's with the BPA mentality. |

I agree,
Both need a change but DeAngelo fills a need for the Canucks, Right shot, 25 year old defenceman. He had 53 points last year in 68 games. Canucks don’t have a lot of choices with Jake best they cut bait and move on, getting a potential top 4 back is a good trade. |
