It's neither for me to say, nor judge. If the people who that slur was used against decide to use it amongst each other, that's their decision. There are as many African American people who feel strongly against using it at all. But it's never an excuse to use racist language because person x did. It wasn't calling me whitey that was racist. It was the connotation/idea that being white means being more highly educated that was. Whether or not that was your intent is irrelevant. It's how you made it look to others.
