Donnie is the best coach they've had in 10 years. If they're going to throw that away to hire a vet, I really hope they pick another guy who will prioritize offense. Bruce I get |

jackets were 16th in the league in goals for/gm (2.84) during torts tenure...this despite not having a superstar forward other than panarin...cam atkinson was their leading scorer during that time with 290 points (0.71/gm.)...was it torts fault he wasn't given the offensive talent? |

How many playoff series did Columbus win before he got there? - sbroads24
While this is true, their drafting and developing has been very good for the past decade and they have made some very good trades.
There is an alarming trend, however, of players wanting out. Nash, RyJo, Panarin, Bob, PLD...
I can tell you, there are much worse places to be than Columbus, but it is very low-key and under-the-radar... Is it how the team is run? Facilities?
The fan base is already one of the most loyal in the NHL. They love the Blue Jackets out here. I have not been to a game since moving here, Pandemic and everything... But everyone tells me the atmosphere at the arena is excellent and it has always looked like it. They were as loud as any during playoff home games on television, too...
And they were becoming a solid team until this season. Even after they lost Panarin and Bobrovsky, they managed to make the playoffs. They made enough trades and roster changes to be competitive in a shortened season but fell off a cliff and played their hand when they traded Savard and their Captian, Foligno, both for 1st round picks.
They just announced Torts is not returning, so, do they do a full rebuild or trade some of their draft capital to bring in some more skill? |

16th in the league in offense and 16 teams make the playoffs

Swap Skinner for Reinhart and I think this is actually a really good deal for both sides. Then send Skinner and Ristolainen out West to LA or San Jose, anywhere. - BeadyEyedDouche
I had skinner going to NYR because it’s prob only 1 of a handful of teams he would waive to. Skinner isn’t waiving out west. Besides the overpayment Botts gave him, he signed here due to the proximity of his home. |

True, he supposedly said he would waive to go to NYR or Toronto only but I don't see NYR being interested in that contract.
We would have to retain. |

Then they're also taking Ristolainen and they'd need to add another early round draft pick. |

you kinda missed the point...torts gets the most out of what he has to work with...look at the lineups: talent in tbl...won a cup...modest talent in ny with future hall of fame goalie in net, ecf...modest talent in cbj, playoffs and playoffs surprises |

You’re really twisting this to fit your narrative
It was known Panarin was New York or Florida bound for almost two years
There’s absolutely no documented rift with him or Torts that I can find. And by all accounts they actually had a good relationship |

It seems like he works with less than others because offensive talent has no interest in sticking around for Torts. The Larrys love him |

this is not true outside of internet message boards...looks like you're equating him too much with teddy...he's coached top-end talent throughout his career and has been successful with them...not only that, your lecavaliers, st. louis, richards and panarins had numbers under torts that were slightly ahead of their career numbers...you said they'd turn dahlin into matt irwin when jones and werenski occupy 2nd and third spots in columbus over the past six seasons...
and forget panarin...he wasn't sticking no matter what...it was well known he was looking for the bright lights...bob was after big bucks that cbj most definitely wasn't offering |
