Zibby is a center who's much better than strome. Jack and him down the middle. They've got to give up something of value to acquire what's considered to be the hardest, or one of the top two hardest, pieces of the roster to fill. It's not that difficult really

How much are Eichel and Zibanejad going to cost against the cap after next season when Zibanejad is a UFA? $18M combined per season? More?

The Rangers would almost have to give up Zibanejad in an Eichel deal for cap reasons. They're not going to pay their top 2 centers a combined $18M+ per year against the cap.

You know I was championing trading for Weegar during the break before the playoffs began last season, not that Florida would've been amenable to trading him.

His name was out there this past offseason and I was hoping we’d make a deal for him.

I’d assume he’s on the no trade list now

a quick look says they have plenty of room next season with 17 players at a $55m cap hit

I see, and generally agree...

The only caveat I have is they mostly likely realize it will be nearly impossible to find another doctor on equal footing that calls out his respected peer, along with the exposure to high risk of a lawsuit if a player was forced to comeback too early.
It would have to be a clear cut case of circumvention... like 9 months to recover from an ordinary broken nose, lol.

Bolts took advantage of an opportunity knowing they would get away with it.

There's some practicality problems with the rules for sure.

I had to look up Lupul's quote, “Haha failed physical? They cheat, everyone lets them.”.

They endured that + Hossa back to back. This is nothing in comparison.

He's under contract for next season. It's the season after where the fun would begin, especially with Fox needing a new deal among others.

My guess is Zibanejad, assuming he produces again next season like he has the past 3, will want at least $9M per.

Reinhart may not even get $7M per on his next deal.

Barkov and Huberdeau combining for 115 points helps in 100 some odd games helps too.

Sam Bennett just didn’t become a goal scorer over night. He’s cleaning up Huberdeau’s garbage.

- Pegullaville

Of course it does. (and about half of those hundred or so games were last year). None of what I say is meant to downplay the importance of having such good players. The biggest change this year is as a team they are very much more determined and harder to play against, and it seems they don’t accept losing.

Bennett’s been here for <10 games (and Bennett, so far, is far more than just Huberdeau's garbage man).

Flat cap for at least the next 2 seasons, and possibly longer.

Mackenzie Weegar has no name recognition but he’s playing like a top 10 d-man in the entire league this year. He had a 4 point night a couple weeks ago that won me a fantasy matchup.

He hasn’t missed a beat since Ekblad got hurt either so we know it’s not just because he’s playing with him.

- Pegullaville

Weegar just keeps getting better every season. He was playing on his off-side when paired with Ekblad. Since Ek went out he’s been playing on the right, his “natural” side, and he’s really stepped his game up.

They were in contract negotiations with Weegar at the time. Toronto media started that story when the negotiations dragged on for a while. I don’t think the defensively challenged Panthers ever had any plans of trading Weegar.

I don’t blame them.

He’s one of the best defensive d-men in the league.

If Drury practices what he preaches, I think the Rangers are still in good hands.
