Pretty incredible where this team is currently at considering where they were a month or two into the regular season. The turnaround in the special teams, goaltending, and bottom 6 has been fun to watch.
This team has a lot of 2016 and 2017 vibes. 2016 was a more dominant team, but they have deep forwards and a defense playing as a unit. In 2017, they saw themselves badly outplayed at times but they still found a way to hold on to win. I see a lot of traits from both those teams in this year's penguins.
The East is tight, I think all 4 teams could easily win the division, all 4 teams could easily lose in the first round. I think the Islanders are the weakest so hopefully that's who we get. A Bruins-Caps series would be fun to watch. |

I stated in several of the previous posts that that was a different conversation. We were discussing what the Pens need to do to make space for their RFAs
And only need to move one 4M salary to get to even is still good news if you want to cut deeper because that means the next salary you move can start going for additions. I'm going to wait until the playoffs are done for that. - Tojo.

Legacy looked great. Other than a few pushes from Buff, the Pens did a nice job of locking things down.
Holding my breath on Geno. Didn't like his body language after that hit. |

Glad we got Carter because Geno can’t stay healthy. Very sad state with his bad luck. |

One thing I will say about the off season now is I'd set up soft battles for the last couple roster spots and go with a 22 man roster to save a little cap space.
I wouldn't have all 4 of POJ, Friedman, Riikola, and Ruhwedel on the opening roster. If POJ makes the team, someone else goes on waivers. Try to find a better vet LHD then Czurczman if that vet can't clear, but they'd still have Trotman plus it's year 2 for the 3 college defensemen so let them earn a cup of coffee if we need to go 10 or 11 deep.
At forward I guess it's Lafferty as 13th, but he'd have Angelo, Zohorna, Poulin, and Legare to beat. Maybe O'Connor who has a point a game since finally going to the AHL or Bellerieve who has almost matched his points in half the games will earn a shot. Might see Bjorkvist and Puustinen come over too so WBS has plenty of interesting forwards not to need a bunch of Jankowski and Sceviour types.
I also don't want to limit the ability for the forwards in that group to earn a mid-season call up because we have 8 defensemen. |

I used to think Angelo was mostly a plug. I think he's shown he can play a role in the NHL. I don't think he's a full time player, but I like him against bigger teams.
FYI... For those not watching, Wilson just took a brutal leg on leg hit. Wasn't put weight on his leg as he left.

So Sullivan said Geno "thought he tweaked something" They "checked him out and he was fine". Said they held him out the remainder of the game as a precaution. |

Yeah, I said earlier that I thought it was something like that. Good news. Geno can rest now. Everyone can rest now.

Isles win? Why? We want them to lose and stay at 4th if the Pens clinch the division.

Makes mondays isles vs Bruins game meaningful is the biggest reason and then could end up making Tuesday’s Bruins vs caps game for home ice. Id rather play the isles then the Bruins yes but not by a crazy amount.
And I’m not someone who’s terrified of playing the Bruins either. People will underrate playing against a Trotz coached playoff team forever but we did that last time and got smoked. I also think the isles are the rougher, tougher more aggressive of the 2 teams personally. |

If the Pens make it out of the first round against the isles then they'd likely have to face the Bruins regardless. My issue is more that I want Geno to get more games under him so he's more in his game when/if the Pens face the Bruins.

If they win tonite I can’t see Washington beating Boston to end the season. They are firing on all cylinders and Washington is half the Hershey squirts or whatever their ahl team is with all their injuries. |

Watching this Wash/Philly game. Did Kevin Hayes age 10 years over the last year? He looks nothing like he did last season. |

Washington never seems to have injury issues. Sort of weird seeing them go through it. |

It's amazing how durable Ovechkin has been given how he throws his weight around. |
