Funny thing is we made our bets together at the same time and I tried talking him out of making that bet. I said make them all separately which would have been less then half the total winnings, can’t remember exactly but it was about $12,000 if he did... lucky so far he never listened to me haha - pens4life-66
He could have backed the big bet with four smaller bets.
Ex: $100 parley, $25 singles. Hit two teams and you break even.

Dude, not to a be a Richard, but you change your opinion on the game as a whole on a second-to-second basis. If the Pens do one good thing, you think they've played well the whole game and if they do one bad thing you think they've sucked the whole game lol

Well, they NEED to move more than just Pettersson or MM. Marino's new contract kicks in which is $4.4, so moving one of Petts or MM is a wash just for that.
Not taking the expansion draft into consideration two key RFAs are Teddy and ZAR, which if I'm a betting man will be make in the low $2M range, maybe a little more for Teddy, so being conservative we're looking at around $2.5M combined raise. Obviously you don't need to move Zucker to make that happen. You could move Tanev and I highly doubt they move McCann or Carter, but they're still going to need more money.
Just based on that and these lines are just designed to show spots based on players who are signed, nothing to do with an opinion on what they should ice:
Jake-Sid-Rust
Zucker-Geno-Kap
McCann-Carter-Lafferty
ZAR-Blue-Tanev
Dumo/Letang
Petts or MM (depends on who gets moved)/Marino
Riikola/Ruhwedel
POJ/Friedman
ERod, Ceci and Gaudreau are UFAs. There are other RFAs, but I'm not showing them because they'd like be two-way contracts which wouldn't impact much, but looking at that lineup, even if they wanted to create space for the possibility of Poulin, Legare or anyone else, they'd need to clear out salary.
If they want to make more impactful moves, then that's when you're talking about moving three key players out.
Sorry for the long post lol - Rinosaur
That's not how it actually works out though. Ceci's roster spot doesn't need replaced and Bjugstad's dead space basically covers Marino's raise. Moving out a 4M that they again can replace in house will roughly cover raises for Blueger and ZAR.
Or just check cap friendly. Pens don't need to move multiple big salaries to fit under the cap. So the second salary you move can go towards adding elsewhere, not the 3rd.
Unless you're talking adding a big salary. But my point was to basically keep the team together minus Ceci, they only need to move out MM or Pettersson. |

You also save 500k by not bringing back Sceviour, or at least if they did bring him back at league minimum.
I also think if POJ makes the team, Riikola ends up on waivers again and probably clears. |

Forgot about Bjug's $2M and yes, Sceviour not coming back makes a difference. I'm gonna head over to capfriendly, because now I'm curious.

It’s not about being able to run it back. If all we want to do is run it back we’re fine. Some tinkering around the edges sure but not much else. I think Rino and I are talking about making an actual impact on the roster. |

I stated in several of the previous posts that that was a different conversation. We were discussing what the Pens need to do to make space for their RFAs
And only need to move one 4M salary to get to even is still good news if you want to cut deeper because that means the next salary you move can start going for additions. I'm going to wait until the playoffs are done for that. |

I agree with you on just keeping some players, but if you look back from my original comment earlier it was more focusing on Hex being able to keep the level of depth and impact players in the lineup. At least I thought I was being specific about that lol |

What's wrong with Geno? - MattStrat
His foot/ankle area got clipped by another player. He took a few short shifts, but stayed on the bench. My guess is he tweaked something and is being cautious. He's got enough time to rest hopefully.

@Rino glanced back and I think I responded to one post but was kind of think of another.
Pens have 10 forwards, 8 defensemen (not including POJ), and 2 goalies signed with 2M to spare. The obvious cap clear is Pettersson or MM for space to sign 3 forwards. They likely lose a forward but add that money to their pool.
Not sure they NEED to lose anyone else to get cap compliant. Clearing salary to make other moves is a different story. - Tojo.
So to clarify, I put need in caps to emphasize it was just about cap compliance, not making other moves. I'll wait to see how the playoffs go before getting into that. |
