Yes. Will tell you now that I think the Flyers will lose JVR. While Seattle (who has to get to the cap floor) will try to entice the Flyers to sweeten the pot under the premise of "we're not just going to help you with your cap", their own team-building needs will ultimately come first. Here's why:
1) JVR is coming off a solid season although the goals dried up after a torrid start (he still collected a healthy number of assists). Played a pretty good two-way game this year, unlike a lot of Flyers forwards. At 32, he's not in his prime years anymore but he isn't ancient, either. I have no idea why he spent a significant chunk of this year on PP2 except that Therrien/Vigneault were frequently looking for a RH shot netfront.
2) JVR's contract has only two seasons left to run. The real-dollar cost in the final year ($4 million base, $1 million signing bonus installment on July 1, 2022) is two million dollars less than his cap hit, which is appealing when spending to at least the require cap floor.
3) He's a rock solid citizen; a team spokesman, devoted family man, not an enemy in the world. He'd fit in with any locker room. - bmeltzer
I can only hope you are right, getting out from JVR's contract will be very good for the Flyers. Then they can focus on getting rid of Jake and Ghost also, and signing a few FA veterans that will provide most grit and leadership. |

This year? Probably. I want a Hughes on our team, everyone else has one. |

Nobody is giving up anything of value for Patrick. - MBFlyerfan
I think for the Flyers they either 1. sign Patrick to a 2 way contract for 1 year an start him on the Phantoms next season, or 2. Add Patrick as a sweetener in a larger hockey trade. Patrick is only 22 so I am sure a team might believe a fresh start and another year removed from his migraine disorder will be worth something.

If you put patrick on waivers to send him to the AHL, might as well trade him for anything, because he will get claimed. |

Patrick is a RFA after this season. The Flyers can sign him to a 2-way 1 year deal and start him on the Phantoms, thus waivers is not involved. |

Depends on the nature of the contract.
Give him 2 years at 1.5/0.75 m NHL/AHL and no one is claiming that at the start of the season.

If the Flyers won a top 3 pick I would want in this order:
Power, Hughes, Clarke
Somehow they trade up and get a top 7-8 pick and defensemen are picked:
Guenther or Eklund
Those are my top 5 wants in this draft easy.

Correct me if I am wrong, but don't waivers start several days before the regular season? So, if a guy has a NHL contract and goes to the AHL, even to start the season, he is in essence being sent down from the NHL roster and so can be claimed (even before the start of the season)? |

2-way has nothing to do with waivers. Only sets separate pay tiers for NHL vs AHL. Patrick has to go thru waivers if he signs any kind of contract w/ the Flyers. |

Buyouts, in general, are a bad idea, they are a terrible idea in a flat cap world |

Any time you re-assign a player, they have to pass thru waivers, no matter if it's the summer or during the season.

It will be very nice to send the Flyers 2020-21 season to its final resting place. - jd250
Arlington Cemetery is a place where honorable souls are laid to rest. Unfortunately, there is nothing honorable about this year's team. |

Why a two-way contract? All that does is pays him less if he is waived to the AHL. |

Some idle spitballing assuming JVR is indeed claimed:
Salary off the books: 7 mil (JVR) + 2.5 (buyouts end: Amac,Shlemko) + 1.9 (salary retained ends: Gus, Raffl).
Bridge Hart: 4.25 for 2/3 (added 3.5 m more than current salary). Resign Sanheim for same.
Am I correct then that this leaves us with 11.4-3.5=7.9 m space next year? Ample to trade for Jones but not Eichel and very probably not enough for Dougie.
If we then retain salary and trade Voracek, or persuade Giroux to waive and trade him before TDL, or both, this frees up a min of 5.5 more: ample to sign Jones to new contract.

Ok, what if it is a 2 way, and he is not on the NHL active roster leading up to the season? Meaning he starts the season on the AHL part of the 2 way without the NHL part ever getting 'activated'? Technically, that is not a reassignment, is it? |

1-way or 2-way, every player under contract with an NHL team starts the year in the NHL.
The only way Patrick would start the year in the AHL is if he signed a contract w/ an AHL team instead. |

Steve Yzerman got a couple second round picks for Brett Connolly, who was taken 6th overall, those are my expectations. Not sure if you think that's value or not, personally, I do.
I also think we should trade Giroux to the Senators, who appear to have a brighter future than we do, for say Pinto, a 1st round pick and a second round pick.
While I'm at it, I think we should also trade Couturier to Montreal for a highend prospect, a 1st round pick and a 2nd round pick.
Plus, eat half of Voracek's salary and send him packing as well!!! #rebuild - DraftandDestroy
Not complaining about what you're proposing, just want to say you're getting a little ahead of yourself here.
G is a tricky one and Couturier isn't going anywhere for the foreseeable future. |

If g is available I think Montreal would be interested as well. Just a feeling.
No one is untouchable but don’t see coots moving yet. And in going to Montreal my first ask is Suzuki. If he’s not on the table I do t even listen. But would imagine him a first and more. |

I think many people here are really deluded on what they think is going to happen this offseason. Best case scenario is that JVR gets claimed without us having to sweeten the pot. Giroux is not going to waive his NMC. If by some miracle you can trade Voracek you will be taking back a player who is not as good as him for about the same cost, in full salary or that salary plus what is retained.....
We have to hope that Fletch fills the top pair d spot and that our young players including Hart (Frost, Lindblom, Patrick, Allison, York etc)have better seasons than they just did. It is what it is.
