But his Schmaltz's stats don't help you win against good teams. If paid by the stat, that's the same argument that was used to justify higher dollars for Strome last year and thankfully Stan didn't fall for it.
- rpeters01

Oh, 100%. That wasn't anything near an endorsement for the Hawks to covet Schmaltz or the like. All I was saying was that his cap hit was perfectly in line with what he is paid as compared to the rest of the league.

Stan Bowman acknowledges that Nikita Zadorov had his ups and downs, but says it was mostly good.

"Murph was our most consistent defenseman. But Nikita was in that top two or three, playing against top players."

No mention of Keith?

Me thinks it's 6 of Stan playing possum and a half dozen of Stan not being as convinced of the young defensemen as the board is. Scotty has seen good young defensemen and perhaps these are not it? IDK...

He could also just be telling the truth. In all honesty, who REALLY outplayed him this year. We can all see the potential in the young guys, but did they actually perform well?

Z got a ton of minutes and often against top lines. The results weren't great, but I'd say about average. Not an endorsement at all, but maybe its just the hard truth?

Sikura with 2 goals tonight. Great job Stan, you gave up up on another young talent too soon.

Would not be surprised to see Stan use the plethora of our young defense men to move significantly up in the draft.
- rpeters01

I don’t think most of the young d-men have much value. Kalynuk and Boqvist should stick around, Mitchell, Beaudin, Regula and Krys are long shots at best.

Or maybe he’s building up his trade value. We can’t expect him to say he sucks and then try and move him, so we’ll see.

I guess no one is safe from these sick bastards. You’d think a strong professional athlete wouldn’t put up with that.

Loved the post-it note format, Theo!

Some more positive sounding news on HNIC headlines today(?)

"a lot of confidence from those close to Toews that he will be able to return and play for Chicago next season"

Godforbid here!

Something not said anywhere close enough. The board wants Murphy and Z basically to play like the old $7M Seabrook. If they did they would not cost ~$7M combined they would cost $14M. The question is, are they playing to their current contracts that is all that is acceptable to ask? Again, Stan gets paid to make those comparisons vs. the league.

Significantly would be from 12 to 6-8. I'm not talking top 5. Would it be worth it to a team to fall from 6-8 to 12 in order to potentially get two serviceable starters?

No reason to do that. There isn´t any player who is that much better or promising. You could get as much upside from player who is there at 12th pick or someone let say 8th pick. No one is giving up their top 5 pick either imo.

But honestly.... measuring Z against the other Hawk dmen was not a very high bar.

Two reasons you probably didn't think about.

One is that Bowman looks at the center situation and realizes he has two opportunities to draft a center - this season or next. He also concludes that his desire for a certain style center rests with a higher pick, that is an earlier selection....now how bad do we need a center and does it trump taking best player available. How much of a difference is there skill wise/ceiling between taking a center or best player available? And whose rating for best player available are you calling as the unequivocal 100% accurate list to go with?

U -huh.

BTW your top center or wing is Dach but when does he return to top form? He will become the player we all expected prior to his WJC injury, right. In two years Rocky and fans expect a much better team. OK, so whom are your centers then.

Oh, so you didn't choose a center. Oh, you signed a free agent center. Really. Believe that after it happens

Meanwhile Kurashev, Kampf, Barrett...
Going far with them as our centers, eh
Savior Dach at center. I'm not to sure on either of those happening. Nor is Kane going to play center. Nope.

Is Zadorov a $3.2M player? IMO no, obviously SB may be seeing something different.

Chunk, you might be right. Problem is Z has 400 games played, not 40. Expectations are different. Advanced stats in this case I think are misleading. Eye test to me says he is not very good. Yes he adds a physical element that no one else on the club does, but thats pretty much it. All I know is I saw a whole bunch of extended time in the D-zone, broken coverage, etc. and 8 out of 10 times I looked Z was on the ice. Maybe I have just become myopic when it comes to what I see with Z.

He is one of the bigger guys on the ice - he takes up more space. That is why you always see him.
