Giroux had more even strength points this season than Nick Bäckström, Patrice Bergeron, Anze Kopitar, Jamie Benn or Alex Ovechkin.

Even after all these years there are Chris Kunitz stans still trying to defend the decision to have him over Giroux on the Olympic team? Now I have really seen everything!

As has been proven true that was a purely political decision. Crosby was the driver and old man and genuinely awful person Mike Babcock green lighted it over a perceived slight.

Babcock being a dogpoop person has nothing to do with not wanting a one dimensional hockey player on his team

Giroux more 5 on 5 points yet a worse plus minus. Zero defense

Exactly my point that G is not a top/good hockey player. Great hands heck maybe even has a huge johnson but a hockey player/sum of all parts:offense defense physicality iq not a good one. Chris kunitz never would get close to 100 points but would hit fight chip on offensively play defense & be tough to play against in general. Give me 20 of them vs 20 girouxs

Plus-minus is more team stat than individual. But it is true that he has better suited to wing than center at this stage of his career. He played more center than ideal this season, by necessity.

By the way, Rod Brind'Amour was a career minus-39. Giroux is a career plus-39. By your logic, Giroux was the more complete all-around player because "the plus-minus says so."

Where is the flaw in that factual statement?

G is one dimensional

A guy like you, I am sure, is aware of the idiom "blanch in horror", so I guess I was shortening that.

Your expressed sensitivity and lack of ability to articulate precisely derived phrases, without added editing, still leaves me wondering what frightened you so.
Consider therapy and an English refresher.
It COULD help.
I'll try not to amplify your anxiety in the future but maybe just avoid reading anything with my 'byline'.

you can call him one dimensional all you want, but someone who isn't a good hockey player doesn't score 100 points in a season. or lead the league in points over a stretch of several seasons, as you've said.

Lighten up, pops. It was a joke, directed at the purple prose about grapeshot in the heart and so on. I don't need therapy, I don't need a language refresher, and I save my anxiety for weightier things. You do however need to tune up that ear for humor.

And they're never a Hart Trophy finalist and top 4 twice. Nor are they 2 assists away from moving into the NHL's all-time top 100 in assists .

Imagine if we had hung on to Sharp and had him play LW during Giroux's prime years. Sigh.

Read carefully. For a decade straight they made the playoffs one year then missed the next year then made it then missed it......they even mentioned it during a game. Just read a lot of recaps eh

Plus minus has nothing to do with it. Anyone could easily tell you just from the eye teat that brindy is the better all around hockey player than G.

The canes embody brindy’s work ethic. = legit contender. G & the flyers .500. He doesn’t have the attitude/drive to be a winner. G is a jokester likes to keep things light. Winners don’t do that. Certainly a time for that but that can’t be your make up

he can't. he'll behave for a bit, but eventually it will be too much for him and he'll get banned again. it is kind of sad if you really think about it. he can't stay away, but he also can't act like an responsible adult.

Spot on!

Remember the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over but expecting different results! Giroux, Hayes, JVR and Voracek are what they are and unfortunately they are not anywhere near top end talent compared to the rest of the league, yet they are taking up about 38% of your cap space. This to me is the NUMBER 1 reason this team Sucks, because the players you are paying he most have to be top end talent, and with the Flyers this is surely not the case!

- jd250

so most have said that the young players regressing and not stepping forward was the issue this season, you disagree and it is the Vets... Hayes for sure was off but Coots, G, Jake and JVR pulled their weight, if they younens just played as well as last year this would have been a much better season.

yeah, I love posters picking on G and his leadership. Truth is the franchise never game G what he needed to win, the e Sharp types. G has not complained and carried the franchise, that is leadership.

Sure they do. I’ve never said he shouldn’t be in the league but to be a good hockey player you have to be more than just 100 points unless you’re okay with sexy numbers being the benchmark. He was good offensively. That has regressed obviously with age which is to be expected. I’m not holding that against him. But he was never good defensively, hasn’t been physical since leveling crosby in playoffs years ago, no speed, no size.

Adam dunn used to lead the leagues in hr & hit .210 is he a good baseball player or just a good power hitter?

I await the onrush of guffaws........
It may not be my inability to discern a joke that is the basis for this misunderstanding. It may be that you don't appreciate your lack of 'funny'.
Let me help, 'rat-a-tat-crash'.
Is that an aerial battle? No, it's the drum accent from the band!
Use this in your comedy career. That way everyone will be more aware of your humorous side and be cued to laugh, prior to rolling on the floor.
If I were your father, kid, I assure you it was an accident. One I apparently favored forgetting.
That's a snide aside masquerading as 'good. clean fun'.
To further inform you, since you didn't catch the drift (complete phrase usage, try it) I plead that you ignore me.

I love Giroux but I can't argue with the points you make. The captain sets the tone for the rest of the team, and this team under Giroux has been plagued with slow starts and inconsistency. That is why I think a new captain is needed, if for nothing more than a new voice and a symbol that a new culture must be established. This is especially important for the younger players like York, Allison, Foerster, O'Brien, we want these guys stepping into a winning culture, a culture where things are done right and standards are high, otherwise these players will fall right in line with what we have been seeing for a decade more or less.
- jd250

I don’t buy the new voice stuff. A new voice doesn’t simply come by taking a letter off a player. You wanna take the captaincy away from Giroux, you trade him. We’re not the sharks, the captaincy means something in Philadelphia. There is only one way you take the “C” from G and you know what that is. You trade him. I’m not trading Claude Giroux.

I’ll take the cups. Thanks

Kopitar, who has won the Selke Trophy twice, was third in Hart voting in 2017-18

Alex Ovechkin – Washington Capitals – 2012-13 While it may have been the least impressive of his three Hart Trophy seasons

Should I keep going?
