It should be a pretty good series. I think the x-factor is going to be the Islanders offense. I'm plenty confident in their ability to keep pucks out of their own net, but it's depositing them in the other one that has been the problem for over a month now, save for the Rangers games. They performed well in the playoffs coming off of a long pause last year, so we're hoping they can pick it up when it really matters.
Obviously the Pens are rolling right now, so it'll be a hot offense vs. a very good defense and, of course, the 2 teams aren't exactly BFF's so it should all make for an entertaining series. - eichiefs9
Goaltending as well in my opinion. |

2 years ago, most of us (including me) were hoping we'd sweep you guys and the Caps-Canes series would go 7 games with the Canes winning, so we wouldn't have to face, Ovie, Backstrom, Holtby, Wilson, etc. We got exactly what we wanted........and then got swept by the Canes. The playoffs are just too unpredictable. - JohnScammo
No argument there. Can’t believe it’s starting with bs matinee game though. |

If this series resembles anything close to how the season ended, It could be very ugly for the Islanders. If they can get their heads out their ( )( ) the Pens Defense and goaltending doesn't scare me and they can win this series.. |

I'm one of the coaches. That's not a good look, lol. I'll just check the score occasionally. Only hope is we get bounced early Sunday and I can go to a local bar to watch it |

Trotz: Varlamov did not skate today but will skate tomorrow. Still no concern about his availability for Game 1. #Isles

Goaltending is going to play a huge role, as it doe sin any hockey series, but where things can go south for the Pens is being too fancy. You have to get in Varlamov's face if you want to score goals and if the Pens play that game where they keep trying to find the perfect setup to take shots instead of just getting pucks on net, then it's over.

Is Jarry the assumed starter? I saw on Twitter yesterday his sv% has only been above .910 once in the last six games, where Varly's has been above that mark in all of his prior six games.
Not that those stats mean anything is any kind of given, but I do agree that goaltending will likely make or break the series for someone. |

Jarry is the starter.
The month of May only had four games and his gaa was under .900, but that was because of that one massive blowout we had against Philly, but before that game he had a shutout and after that a .909 and .826, so it was definitely an up and down last four games.
For April he had .911 and March was a .928. His real issues come on the road vs. home, so there's definitely some consistency question marks for him, but honestly he's been awesome. You look at some of the games where his gaa was less than ideal, and you can see many of those goals were not on him.
That said, your goaltending is much better than ours. |

Who knows it’s the playoffs but I wouldn’t discount Jarry. He’s 8-1 against the Islanders in nine starts over his career with a .925 save %. Hopefully that doesn’t translate to the playoffs and he falls flat on his face but those are pretty impressive numbers albeit with a smallish sample size. |

He did that plenty of times during this year’s regular season. |
