So... about 20 minutes ago Charlie O'Connor posted his Flyers grades in his column on The Athletic. As he says, there are no A's after this season and F is for Flyers.
And for all you Giroux haters out there.. he graded the Captain's performance a B+. - Doc_Sarcasm
And his opinion is more valid than the guy on the street corner because?
When the Flyers still had a playoff pulse April 11 (at home against the worst team in the NHL) I think Charlie should go back and watch Giroux's lazy icing, then watch him get beaten cleanly on a faceoff, then watch him get beaten to the net by Jeff Skinner's corpse.
I'm not a Giroux hater, not by a longshot, but I guarantee Giroux himself wouldn't give himself a B+ this season. |

This makes sense. I wouldn't of handed out any A's either. I thought G, Couts and Farabee deserved Bs, a lot of C's and D's, and I gave Myers, Hayes and Patrick an F! - jd250
Curious. How do you break down G’s grade?
Is it strictly stats? Does leadership factor in? |

I think giroux would which is why the team is a .500 club with him but you’re spot on. So many people only look at his point production the example in effort he shows on the ice is disgusting. Furthermore, did you know that in over HALF of the games this season (29) Giroux did not record a single point. Half the season! C- at best

I wonder if Seattle would take Jake and then we can also ship ghost to Seattle in a trade with them as well. Seattle gets two good players and we get 1w.75 million in cal space, minus whatever contract we take back in the ghost trade
It may just be pipedreams but It never hurts to ask RF what he would be willing to do |

My first time commenting on this site. I frequent to read the articles & comments & just couldn’t read the wrong takes on the captain, nolan patrick, hextall, sanheim, myers, laughton anymore. |

29 games this season Giroux didn’t score a single point.
Jake 24 games yet everyone wants Jake gone.
Don’t tell me they play any differently than eachother & G hustles more than Jake. They both are lazy, they both are “leaders” G more responsibility because he is first in line-the captain & the team sucked. I’m not saying Jake is better or he should stay they both need to go although Jake brings more to the table the G & will stick up for a teammate. |

Bill Meltzer: Musings: Expansion Draft, Phantoms Update - bmeltzer
I find it hard to believe that no one who covers this team did not ask av or cf to explain the "Canadian" player's excuse. Did all the Penguin players stay in the states after last season's playoffs? Tampa? Colorado? Vegas? |

I sure hope Chuck and trade Ghost before the ED. That will help things go in our fav on who the Kraken take. I think he does have trade value. |

I based it on expectations. If the player met my expectations they got a B, exceeded them they got an A. With G I think he had a good year in terms of showing up each night and playing consistently. AV has stated this also a few times this year. I was not expecting G to score 100 points or 30 goals, he is not that player any more. But I felt overall he had a good year in terms of production and impact to games. I did not factor the 'C' into my evaluation. I have been posting regularly that I think the Flyers need new leadership, new voices. But overall G met my expectations. |

There was not a single player on this team that showed up ready to play from puck drop this season. That and poor defensive play/goaltending was the only constant this season. |

Who even are these Canadian players? The defense? Our two best players were Canadian in G and Coots. |

Even more 22 games with only recording 0 or 1 shot on goal. How do you play 18-22 minutes a night and not record a shot on net? He isn’t physical, doesn’t play defense so what is he bringing to the table those 20+ games???? Oh right he’s awesome at faceoffs 👏

Exactly but how is a 22 year old supposed to show up every night if your 33 year old captain takes half the games off?? |

That was a bad game for G, but he also had a few good games. Overall he is not the player he once was, and we have to reset our expectations. This is just another reason G should give up the 'C'. |

We are literally talking about people doing their job, why is it impossible for a 22 year old to show up and skate hard? He’s the captain of a hockey team, you’re acting like he’s about to lead men into a battle for their lives and they don’t trust him. It’s hockey man, show up and Franking play |

I’m with Bill on this one. Don’t add anything. If you lose a guy like Jake it will create a hole. Same with JVR and Ghost. We can’t fill those spots with rookies. Even talented ones. If they take a NAK or a Braun we can fill those gaps more easily.
I would be nice to free up cap space but we would have to spend that cap space to bring in someone that can fill the void.
Losing any of these players hurts the team for sure. I think the guy that would be at most risk is JVR but it all depends on what the Kraken are able to get from other teams. They will need some big contracts also and guys like JVR and Jake are productive player. I think they will take one of those players in my mind. A bunch of teams won’t have anything more then a 3rd line or second pairing guy with no splinter skill available. Like the Flyers last draft. |

I can already see it that after he finishes next season with 15 points you’ll be one of the first guys to come out & say time to move on from him. Why can’t you see the writing on the wall why do you have to base it off of production next year? He doesn’t look like a NHL hockey player |
