One other fun CNE memory:
They used to open up just the midway for a week or two in June. They even had a clever name for it: The Toronto Midway.
Me, my brother and a buddy went down to a Jays game. The rule was your ticket stub was good for one free ride on the midway after the game.
So after the game, we stood at the exit, and asked everyone walking by for their ticket stubs. After 5 minutes, we probably had 100 tickets each.
We then proceeded to hit the midway like the crown princes of the CNE.
I think we rode the Rotor 25 times.

Jays games while the Ex was on was awesome. We’d get the $2 seats at the top so we could see all the stuff going on. It is there that I witnessed the probable death, or life altering accident, or at least a bump. Sitting on the lake side we could see the carpet slide. Kind of a chubby kid gets on. Gets air the very first bump. More the second bump, now flailing out of control, third bump - omg he’s too high, he flips in the air and lands on the back of his neck/head near the very end of the slide, a crumpled mass of jello. Of course we were killing ourselves laughing, but to this day, I wonder about tubby carpet boy.
