I've asked the same question here multiple times. Answer is always, "his value will never be higher"

He will only cost around 5M per. He's developed into a 200 ft. player and he has found some nastiness in his game.

IMO, Buch is better than Kreider right now.

well that's true, but doesn't change the fact that we can't do anything about Kreider

I agree that Kreider contract isn't the best, but his contract doesn't preclude NYR from signing Buch.

Kreider's full NMC runs out in 3 seasons and transitions to a 15 team NTC....so he could be moved right when Laf, Kravs, etc. are due big contracts....right? I have to believe Gorton/JD did that on purpose.

well not right now, but Fox is gonna need one, Kakko will need one, Lafreniere will need one, and we still haven't addressed center

we put all our money into wingers and this cap doesn't ever go up again, we in trouble

I am not saying we absolutely need to trade Buch though, just pointing out the situation

Kotkaniemi and Caufield will be healthy scratches for Montreal's first playoff game

well Fox is due for his next contract next summer

we'd probably be better off if he DOESNT win the Norris

IDK....Both Kreider and Trouba are good players. Trouba proved his worth this year, and Kreider is a 25-35 goal scorer....I just wish he was more physical on a nightly basis. Contracts are signed based on prior performances , and the reality is that the majority of long term contracts suck for the team in the final couple of years. Difference is is that it looks like that NYR will have a ton of youngsters coming of ELC's at the same time. That is disconcerting.

Not shocking for Caufield. He's only played a handful of games, no? More so for Kothaniemi. He and Suzuki drove their offense on many nights.

Agreed. But, let's not call Kreider a 35 goal scorer. At the age of 30 you are what you have done, not what your potential calls for. He's a 20-28 goal scorer and that should be enough for people (but it won't be).

ultimately none of t matters whether or not Trouba and Kreider are doing enough to please everybody

nothing can be done about their contracts and we have to improve the team down the middle, so they need to use the best strategy to get that done

I am not opposed at all to Buchnevich being re-signed, but is it necessary with all these wingers, that's the multi-million dollar question

to me its all about the cap

when they signed Kreider to his contract it was right before the pandemic hit and it was predicted the cap would go to 100 million in a few years and it was before we got Lafreniere

Montreal wants a big physical team against the Leafs to muscle them around. I just don't know who will score for them with those two out.

Yea no one could have predicted it.

Also 6.5 million is 2nd line player money, that is what he is. I don't think its an overpay at all.

it's more important to keep the focus on Buchnevich, does he remain a top 6 winger with all these wingers here

if the answer is no, it's best to move him

Yea I am not moving him for picks and prospects. If he helps us upgrade at Center I am fine with it. His value will never be higher, so its either sign him or cash in

my trade proposal for Eichel is

Buchnevich
Chytil
Lundkvist
Rangers 2021 first rounder
Buffalo gets their own 3rd rounder back

and most Buffalo fans laughed at this

My trade proposal for Eichel is:

If you want to cheer for Eichel, trade your Rangers affiliation for Sabres!!!

I definitely think Buffalo is trading him, I still think the Kings are the favorites though

But, I do think Drury being GM now has increased Rangers likelihood of making the move
