Don't worry we'll trade you Georgiev for our 2nd round pick back - jimbro83 There will be better choices... Bernier for 2 more years is all that is needed for now. Or Freddie, Ullmark or Halak even, Driedger, or even Hill...A lot of better options.

Well for starters, only two of the teams in your division would have even made the playoffs in ours. Somehow the Jets lost what seems like 20 games in a row, still comfortably made it in. - 2sticks1puck
so you are basing this all on points playing 6 teams in your division? lol. that makes zero sense.
nice try though. I can also make ridiculous points like the North division is the only division with one team under 50 points where every other division had multiple. the Rangers got to play the Sabres how many times? is there even another team in the league within ten points of the Sabres?
comparing teams this year is ridiculous as is handing out a Presidents trophy for most points.

you guys wanna see bizarro world?
game 4 Bruins-Devils 1988 after the Koharski fat pig donut incident
Sam Rosen and Phil Esposito calling the game
Matt Lauer an announcer in the hallways
Larry Brooks the Devils media guy

A fellow named Paul McGuinness, in being one of the Devils two regular season goal judges, and otherwise, an ice hockey rink manager in the tri-state area as well back then, had replaced referee Dan Koharski to ref the balance of that game. That due to Koharski's refusal to finish the game once Devils head coach then in Schoenfeld yelled at him to "have another doughnut you fat pig." |

I agree it's not an apples to apples comparison, but teams in the north also got to play the Senators a ton of times. Last season the Sabres actually scored more points than them. You have to admit, the Leafs are probably the only team against the other teams in the league you'd potentially take in a 7 game series. Montreal is scrappy and probably could give a few teams issues, and Edmonton because of the star power. Other than that, I mean the division is toilet paper soft.

which is really stupid because if AZ wins, they re-draw, so what's the point - ELew11
They are forfeiting their pick. They have to be assigned a pick first. If they win the lottery, don't they just forfeit 1OA and everybody moves up? Basically giving the Sabres an extra 2.5%. |

They still need to be in the lottery to keep the odds correct, but I know I read somewhere if they win either spot, they will re-draw

Really? That seems dumb. They forfeit no matter where they are picking. Just settle it, take them out and move everyone up. Seems fair to me. |

You know, when someone references something, the fat pig in this case, you don’t have to repeat it like it wasn’t stated already. It’s kinda dooshish 🤷🏻♂️
But I guess that’s what you get when you copy and paste |

Edmonton is scary solely based on McJesus. Watching the Leafs and Oilers as much as I did this year, I can say without question, Mathews, Draisitl and whoever else you want to add are not even close to McDavid.

McDavid could down as the greatest player of all time. Considering the age the NHL is in now. Defense first. Better goalies/bigger equipment etc. The Gretzky/Leimeux era was a lot easier to score.
104 pts in 55 games is quite impressive |

Gretzky was such a cheat code. I think people forget just how insane he was for a stretch of time. By the time he got here, he was clearly aging and in decline and yet still almost helped drag us to the Final

If he comes straight to us and doesn't stop off in St Louis, I think maybe we do better in 96 |

It's possible he puts up insane numbers. The counter argument though would be he wouldn't have access to the training and regimen athletes have now, as well as the equipment. McD is clearly generational, but I just always dismiss arguments of anyone vs Gretzky, because he is the Goat of any sport. His records are just that unfathomable.

McDavid is also pretty well protected in this era. I wonder how he would fare playing in the 80's through the mid 90's especially as the clutch and grab era got under way. You can't always compare players from two different eras. If you transplant them directly an earlier era guy comes in without the benefits the later era guy had and vice versa.
Imagine Gretzky with the benefits of modern training and other resources afforded to todays athletes. |

All good points.
Given the training and conditioning of today, not to mention the technology of the skates, maybe LeFleur or Orr still turn out to be better skaters.
Oh, and maybe not smoking on the bench, too!! |

He is definitely talked about a lot. I don't watch a ton of media and I can't say that Southern Ontario is truly like the rest of the country, so I don't know really. |
