Before the locker cleanout interviews, I was on the keep Jack and Sam, trade Risto.
Now, I'm full on-board with trading all three plus others in packages.
Package 1
Eichel
Olofsson.
Sell the '19-'20 season of combined ~150pt pace over 82, Jacks monster possession metrics, and their impact on the PP. Also, Jack at 1.0pt/Gm pace this season with multiple short-term nagging injuries. STUD.
I'd expect back 5 solid assets, which vary according to the team. Anaheim I'm alright with a 1st Rd draft pick as it should remain a lottery pick. Rangers, Kings etc...not so much, need existing A-level prospects, draft picks expected to be mid-20's or worse.
Package 2
Reinhart
Miller
Sell Sam's increased production, possession metrics and conversion to 1C in which he did quite nicely. Could be a solid 2C, or 1RW with 65 pts over 82, while excellent on PP in front down low. Miller is steady eddy as 3RhD who can play physical, has a booming shot to contribute on 2nd PP.
I'd expect back a serious A Prospect and solid middle 6 roster player who is young.
Package 3
Risto
Thompson
Sell gritty, offensive, PP Dman coupled with power F coming into his own and ready to leverage his very nice production under Granato.
A goaltender could be a target...Arizona Maybe? An upgrade to RW also.
I'm ready for the Rebuild IV! - IonSabres

Maybe they keep Sam.
Sam
Cozens
Mitts
Maybe they trade Risto for a C. - Powerslave
I don’t see Sam coming back. Risto might get you a center. A Sam trade could. But let’s be honest, jack will get you the better young player, which should be a center.
Then you can use Sam and Risto on rw and goalie ...
Also, isn’t Lafrenire (spelling) a LW where we have a $9 mill player already, while being weak as it is on the right wing.
I just don’t like the rangers as a trade partner. I don’t like the pieces they have, I don’t like jack in the east. None of that is appealing. |

that's not a great return for the needs of the team
Chytil, Kakko, Georgiev and Zac Jones - homiedclown
Is that the return you want?!?!
Chytil- 3rd liner
Kakko- 2nd liner (so far)
Georgiev- might not even be a starter
Zac Jones- not a high end piece either
I wouldn’t even trade Sam for those guys
Maybe Kakko can still be considered a “highe end” piece by some- but after 2 underwhelming seasons, i don’t
If the rangers want Jack, they’ve gotta give up at least 1 of: Fox, Shesterkin, Lafreniere....
if not ALL of them |

Or draft one this year - Buff36
Great. Another rookie forced into the lineup. Have we learned nothing?!? |

Idk if I’m Jack Eichel and I have my heart set out on playing in Boston or New York in 14 months I’d have no problem telling Rob Blake or Bill Guerin that even if they trade for me this offseason.
Eichel has all the leverage due to his NMC. - Pegullaville
That's tampering, it's against the law. Wink, wink.
Eichel has a 5 year contract left. I suppose he could pull PLD, so the possibility exists but that is pretty rare so the probability is very low. |
|
|
|
The reality is, we are going to be disappointed in the return we get for Eichel.
If you were a GM, would you trade a boatload for a player who needs surgery who can decide his own fate the next offseason ?
Whose to say Jack says Frank you to the team thag acquired him this offseason and still weasels his way to New York or Boston ?
Ever consider that ? - Pegullaville
Says who?
Sabres Doctors say rehab not surgery. |

I just don’t like not getting a center back... it puts us too weak down the middle. Zegras or Byfield... - Gr8daygo
me neither...however, you've got a talent in lafreniere that can help offset the loss of the talent in jack...if you're the sabres, you go to skunk and say, "this is your team if you want it, 8yrs./$64m and the 'C'"...if he accepts you have your top three centers for a long time in him cozens and mitts (in no particular order past this season)...
if skunk moves on you still have a talent in lafreniere growing with the likes of cozens and mitts and maybe benier and you just load up with as much young talent as you can...
in addition you're freeing up $10m in cap-hit and getting help in goal |

Right, on all counts.
The hope is that LA, Ana or another west team want to go all in on Jack. |

Who's saying force him into the lineup, you just hope the talent brought in can offset Jack's loss until he's ready. |

First time GM's have the tendency to go hard after who they want to fit their vision. Jack's the type of player who seems to fit what he and Grier would really want. And Jack's a true No. 1 too.
LaFreniere
Georgiev
Lundkvist
2021 1st
2021 3rd (Buf)
If they want something in addition either 2021 2nd (Bos) or the rights to Pilut - Michael Pachla
Lafreniere was a bit disappointing this season
So if he’s the main piece, I’d want some other high end pieces involved as well
Eichel should be going for a teams’ BEST young pieces
I hope Adams demands more than packages like this

Soooo
Mitts.
Cozens.
Grigs.
Eakin.
Oh, I can’t wait to watch that! That’s another top 3 pick for at least a year, maybe two. |

Ya, underwhelming IMO.
If you're trading with the Rags, I would need Zibby back and still draft Beniers if available. |

I was going to make a lineup, based on if Sam comes back, but it's impossible without knowing where Jack/Risto is/are going. |

Hey.... if that happens it could be :

Mitts
And it would be the best Center group in the league for the next 10years or so |

ain't gonna happen...i think that trade stretches the rags to the limits...
from their prospective they're getting a bona fide No. 1 center for a left winger who's upside is a bona fide No. winger, but because he's so young, it's still has a "futures" feel to it...they also keep the best of their two nhl goalies...
the rest are pure futures which may or may not a) reach their potential or b) may or may not make the nhl and/or have an impact |

That's without accounting for the return on a Sam and/or Risto deal.
Really, it's impossible and pointless to try and think about a lineup. |
