Just came across something in the new CBA sabres fans might find interesting.
Under the old one an RFA’s qualifying offer had to be equal to that of the salary where as of last summer any RFA contract signed has a qualifying offer the same as the AAV.
For example matthew tkachuck’s contract was signed under the old CBA so his next one will have a cap hit that will match the 9 million salary he was making in the last year of his current contract. But if it was signed after the new CBA the qualifying offer would only match the 7 million aav he has right now.
It might or might not change anything I was thinking in the Dahlin negotiations but none the less it will be interesting to see if it plays a part. - RedC21
It's not quite as simple as you laid out, but you're close. |

It's the lower number of the final year of the deal or 120% of the AAV.
For Tkachuk, if his deal was signed after the updated CBA, his QO would be $8.4M as that is 120% of his $7M AAV and less than his $9M final year of the deal.
Barzal, another example, would be $8.4M instead of the $10M that is the final year of his deal.
Also, I believe signing bonuses do not count for the final year of an RFA deal to derive that number.

Thanks for the better clarification, I came across it in an article when I was researching something else and with it being just a short bullet point it must not have gone in depth enough. Like I said though it will be interesting to see if it affects this summer’s RFA’s in comparison to the past few years |

Some good games on today. That Vegas vs Wild should be a good series. Wild handled Vegas pretty good during the regular season. I am really looking forward to that Florida vs Tampa game tonight, that should be a really good series. |

Great game last night too. The fact OV can still physically dominate a team like the Bruins is stunning to me. He was knocking the hell out every Bruin and Nick Backstrom last night. Guy's simply amazing. |

Great series to kickoff hopefully a long, long playoff run for The Bolts!
I know Rat is a Panthers guy...and that team could go deep, they are fun and exciting to watch as well with some very, very good talent.
Kong is excited too, given Kuch is now well rested and ready to come back and contribute.
Question is, can he ramp up to a top 5 player status, or just be a normal 1st liner?
Done trolling! It us great to have playoff hockey for the next 12 weeks! |

Well normal 1st liner is better than most for Kuch. Should be a War, might be the best opening series of them all. |

This guy gets Hockey - Buff36
Good read, thanks for sharing...although, not being a subscriber, BN locks me out after a couple of articles.
The Don has the right mindset for the game and teaching young guys. He is perfect for the Rebuild IV |

Like Granato, he's got a good hockey mind. Sorry for some reason my phone won't let me post things certain ways. Could be me, not very good with this stuff. |

Looking at possible destinations for Eichel if he is traded. Even if we don't get what we hope for, there are packages that can be put together that could help make us a better overall team. I don't really care if we get futures or picks, it would be nice. But we could get players in that 24- 27yr range that could help know and into the future while still building the pipeline. |

Tough break for the Blues with Perron testing positive for The Covid.
3 guys on the Blues in a week...let's hope it doesn't cause an outbreak.
If I'm the Avs GM and Owners, I would be all over the NHL to ensure every last possible protocol and test is being done to prevent an outbreak and having it transmitted to them during a possible Cup run. |

Agreed, but this is going to test Adams' mettle to maximize the return.
Two things I believe whole heartedly;
- Packaging Olofsson with Jack should provide the best return possible. To do so, KA should hold 50% of Olo for a total package Cap hit of only $11.5m. In '19-20 they were on pace for 155pt /82 gms...and significantly improved the PP. Those are high value selling points.
- draft picks are devalued for two reasons; a) unless a top 5 this year, the '21 Draft is more of a crap shoot than most, and amplified by the Sabres low investment in scouting resources, b) prospects maybe be better in '22 and '23 but the acquiring team probably moves up the league and down the draft order.
So get a return of young players and A-level prospects (high probability of Top 6/ 1st or 2nd Pairings) in most cases. Picks should be the 4th asset acquired unless it is Anaheim's 1st in '21 |

Don't know if you saw homie's trade with Arizona he put out a few days ago, but it could help us overall Dvorak Garland Chyuryn DK and go from there, it checks the boxes, might not be the perfect package but with the sum could make us better. |

The test will be to see if Ovechkin can do that physically every game for the entire playoffs. At his age, it becomes progressively more difficult as each game goes by.
Game 1 is easy. Beyond is that is exponentially more difficult. It does help that he's a big, big guy (6'3 238 per the NHL website). |

Interesting article I read yesterday, likely posted as a link on here yesterday...
Kings should target Sam not Eichel due to a) lower acquisition costs, b) Kings Prospect pool of C's.
Maybe Sam pulls a Vilardi / Turcotte / Fagemo out of them. Could they squeeze a 2nd asset out of them? |

They all fit the age range for sure and cover all the bases positionally.
I like all those guys, but doubt we get all that in a package..but maybe. |
