These last two game’s are going to be epic. Will shape these two franchises for the decade to come!
CBC/Rogers Sportsnet must be so happy with the ratings and what it means for their projected revenues moving forward. |

I am looking forward to the 2 game winning streak to end the season. It will move them up 3 spots in the standings and should give them a bunch of confidence for next season. |

Hoping that game proves to ownership that firing Benning/Green will be a massive mistake.

Extremely smart move, very well planned out and realized by JB. Not running out of time this season to finish as high as they can |

Honestly, if they fire JB and Green/staff, I would be pretty happy and this poope end of the season would be icing on the cake.
Edit: This is from Drance via The Athletic this morning, so take with some salt, but goes to show that even if they fire JB and the management, who the f uck wants to come work for Aqualini?
Hardest truth
The Canucks may make some significant changes in leadership in the days ahead. Certainly, that’s become the industry expectation over the past 72 hours or so.
We’ll see. Internally there’s nothing but uncertainty on every front. It’s hard to think of a moment in recent memory when the club was as demoralized at just about every level as it is right now.
Over the weekend it felt like things accelerated, beginning with Tyler Toffoli’s dunk on Canucks management in the Players’ Tribune. Toffoli noted in that piece the Canucks never made him an offer last offseason, which caused Canucks fans to re-litigate the whole “ran out of time” thing.
Here’s the thing, though. It’s true that the Canucks never made Toffoli an offer. There are two primary reasons for this, one we already knew — the club had already earmarked Toffoli’s possible cap space for an anticipated Nate Schmidt trade — and the other reason that has to be noted.
For the Canucks over the past year, ownership has micromanaged hockey operations spending at a level never before seen in this organization. That’s not uncommon around the NHL, considering the financial stresses of the pandemic, but it’s taken on a different characteristic in Vancouver.
The issue hasn’t just been tighter-than-usual budget control of Canucks hockey operations, it’s also been that the level of budget control is arbitrary. At a whim, a move will be permitted; at a whim, it will be refused. Line items are micromanaged to the point that virtual rounding errors are subject to specific ownership approval.
You can’t run a billion-dollar organization in this fashion.
On the Toffoli front, the Canucks’ hands were sort of tied after ownership opted against permitting the club’s hockey operations group to use a buyout on a player contract before that window closed. At that point, it was always going to be difficult to retain Toffoli, replace Markstrom and find a defensive upgrade.
So what’s the other reason a Toffoli offer was never made? Fundamentally, it’s because one was never approved to be made.
It’s worth keeping this in mind because general manager Jim Benning is wearing an awful lot of decisions at the moment. Some of those decisions are on him and we could write endlessly about the contract work, the asset management, the cap allocation and the all-around statesmanship — and we have. There’s also episodes like losing Toffoli in free agency, however, that reflect more on the organization as a whole than on Benning alone.
It’s a reminder, at the very least, that a change in hockey operations leadership isn’t sufficient to get this team back on track. This organization’s issues run deeper. |

Good share. Everyone should read this as a lot of people seem to be in denial about what’s going on w the team. Until Aquilini is gone we have no chance |

I guess most of us hope that Aquilini will actually let a new GM do his job without interference but that's as naive as Karen from Red Deer believing Nucker's posts. |

Ya, I mean JB has clearly shown he's not the most competent GM, but having Aqua as an owner probably limits the pool of talented people, and limits them in their job to do what they need to do. Aqua is handicapping his own team by being a twat and a bad owner.
Hopefully, somehow, Aqua backs off a bit next year and the new GM has some more room to work with |

The Luongo cap hit and everything else that has went wrong. Canucks probably could of had more draft picks or prospects with salaries retained on trades. FA has probably never fully embraced a rebuild. He put Gillis in charge and watched him run for a cup and decimate vital parts of the club to try and win.
Organization was way more f-ed up before Benning showed up. I feel bad for Benning, he has done an alright job. He has drafted a lot of good young players. He just can't seem to get enough right under the circumstances in which he is allowed to run. |

If some honestly think the next GM is going to come in and somehow be so magical. I just feel as if they are going to be disappointed as usual.
31 GM's in the league and they are all trying to win. Trying to sign the same players, trade for the same players. I'm not sure some realize (not stating you specifically) that it's not as easy as a video game. |

and that's exactly how i feel about JB.

No one is asking for magic, just competency across the board. JB is good in drafting, but has a lot of holes in his resume to date on trades, signings, cap management, etc.
Not one GM will be perfect, but if there's someone better overall and more competent in multiple areas, they're going to be better for the organization – especially if they keep the same scouts that JB has put into place as that's been his biggest strength. |

The last GM was amazing at managing the cap and scouting pro talent. How did that turn out for organization?

he got to one win of the cup.
but then again, he didn't get a decade either.
so, i'm sure if you asked MG before he got fired, i'm sure he'd have said, "we're only 2 years away from competing again." |

I would be all for this person who is going to be better. I have no problem letting JB go today, tomorrow, the day after that.
The last 2 GM's were supposed to be better than the last guy as welll, they weren't. They were different than JB and the organization is in the current situation because of that.
Maybe he is the one doing the amateur scouting and making most of the picks. Maybe he should step down into an asst role and let someone else do the other work.
Over the last 20 years of Canucks rookies, JB has brought in 6 out of the top 15.
I have a feeling a few more are going to make it into the top 15 next season. |

MG had 6 years to take the team from their prime to the worst team in history according to some. That's talent right there. He was great at the cap though.
I have mentioned other people that I would have no problem filling Benning's shoes. I just would rather not see the team in another 6 years go through another rebuild. |

i love the fact that when discussing JB and his deficiencies, it always comes back to an argument against MG.
it's 7 seasons later and this BS has gotten as old as JB's incompetence. JB can draft but he can do pretty much nothing else.
for you that's good enough. i'd like to move beyond mediocrity which is where we are heading and which you'll realize in about 5 years. and then you'll be crying for a rebuild... 15 YEARS TOO FCUKING LATE.
and with respect to you bringing up MG, nice deflection:
