The Risto trade to Detroit isn't horrible but that being said, i still wouldn't want the Wings to make that trade. Not a fan of Risto at all and the Wings don't need right handed defensemen they have more than enough of them (Hronek, Seider, Stetcher, Lindstrom) for next season. They are weak on the left side with only DeKeyser and Cholowski and Hicketts with NHL experience. I could see Yzerman signing a guy like Martinez or Oleksiak if they hit the UFA market. Then again maybe Yzerman will take a cap dump for picks like he did for Staal to fill the need. |

I honestly think Anaheim might make the cleanest, easiest trade partners
Top 5 pick + Zegras and Drysdale.
Three blue chip pieces

Why don't we wait and see how his progress is in the next few weeks from the injury. Cause you can downgrade it all you want, but it is a big deal. |

I would think a point would be proven after seeing his worth in the playoffs?
Let's see if he's worth the 1st.
I think he shows up big, foligno is a playoff guy.
A nhl captain, not some scrub - Boss34
The Leafs have an Uber talented top 6 and could afford to move a first rounder for a guy like Foligno if they feel that the intangibles he brings helps push them forward.
All I’m saying is that the player himself talent wise was not worth a first.
Do I think Risto is worth a first ? Personally no.
Would a team like Winnipeg or someone else move a first rounder though because it’s going to be a late first and they might think they are a few pieces away (especially if the Sabres withhold salary) I think so yes.
Different teams view first rounders differently. Different teams view players differently. We see it every year with certain free agent signings or trades that people question “how did he get that ?”
That’s what happens in a league full of nepotism in the old boys club where there are really a handful of really good GM’s |

I just can’t even imagine not being able to get a teams best prospect for Jack freaking Eichel.
Imagine the Sabres are ready to compete and are getting a top 5-10 center like Pettersson or Brayden Point and refusing to give up Jack Quinn - sbroads24
Time will tell I guess.
I’ll be more than happy for everyone on here to say I told you so.
I’m ready to be disappointed by the return we get though.

Agreed but personally don’t see them giving up both plus top 5 pick.
Both Drysdale and Zegras are on paths to be stars in their own right |

Why pick yourself up this much, just to be disappointed. Even if it's a good return, people are just gonna say they didn't get enough. |

Not sure why it has to be said over and over and over
Ristolainen sucks, and he also is a player GM’s and coaches think they can fix = he should still have some trade value
It’s not rocket science - sbroads24
This is a very fair post.
Wonder if donnie thinks he can fix risto? Wonder if gmka thinks donnie can "fix" him.
I thought we all know, including professional gms, that there is no fixing the bone headed plays.
It's not a system issue with risto
If someone trades for him, they like him. They like what I see in risto. His toughness, hitting and effort. |

Solid flacco 👍
The 1st is both for foligno and for the "fit" in Toronto.
Just my opinion, but I think he's the guy that gets them over the hump. Maybe not all the humps...
Nhl captain. Now playing near home. I love this move by Toronto.

I’d like that stuff too if coaches could help themselves playing him 25 minutes a game.
I’m not anti physicality.
He’s has skill, he can help offensively, but I can’t handle another year of him getting totally run over by other teams top lines |

The media will spin it that way.
However it will be because Matthews, Marner, Nylander taking another step and they finally addressed their biggest hole on the roster with T.J Brodie.
They also have one of the easiest paths to the final 4. |

I agree with you.
The blunder's really aren't curable. It's him.
The big minutes are based on his conditioning to some degree. Fewer would be better for everyone involved.
Its really tough to play defense in the nhl. It's easy to isolate the mistakes.

You are predicting the future.
Let's watch the games and evaluate folignos play.
You keep trying to take the win and hang up.
1st he's not worth it
Then he's a good fit
Now the media is gonna make him look good
Grasping flacco |

I listen to Toronto media every day.
Sooner or later you can foreshadow what the discussion will be about.
If the Leafs choke against Montreal, TSN will be talking the entire offseason about how the Leafs should have offered that same package for Foligno for Hall.
But that’s why they play the games, you’re right let’s see how it plays out

Good post.
You definitely have a different perspective being north of the border. Personally I see the leafs winning a round or 2.

Because it won't be. Look at the last 2 1Cs to be traded in their prime, Thornton and Seguin. Those deals are dogpoop. There's a reason franchise players aren't dealt in their prime. |

Two cheap shots already too. But I'm reliably told they don't happen when you have tough guys on your team. |
