Let’s not forget Bailey and of course there was Pelech who was on the Girls Club suck list. Problem is there’s nothing they can add other than pissing and moaning hence the girls club. - nyisles7
Wow, who on earth would/could complain about Pelech? Kid has been good since he first joined the club |

Pelech under Jack Capuano and Doug Weight was not the player he is under Barry Trotz. We all (except you?) wondered why Snow gave him that multi-year contract extension. Snow saw something we didn't. Imagine that!
We all (except you?) get frustrated by Bailey's soft play during the regular season, when he consistently opts for the poke check, even when a body check is the right play. We also (except you?) get frustrated when he always seems to pass up open looks on the goal in order to pass, even when the guy he's passing to is covered or has a worse angle to shoot from.

He had growing pains his first season or two. He has improved remarkably under Trotz. |

Nobody thought Pelech was good when Snow signed him besides Snow. I won’t even give him credit he had also signed plenty of garbage players for term I think it was by accident
He actually started playing great before Trotz came in albeit on some defensively challenged teams so maybe it wasn’t as obvious as it is today. |

This isn’t true. Pelech was pretty awful for his first few years this entire thread panned him. He came into his own before trotz came on board imo and really blossomed further under trotz. I don’t think you are remembering correctly. I don’t remember anyone thinking he would be a good player on here initially myself included.
Edit; maybe you thought he was good from the get go but nobody else did on here. I don’t even remember you liking him I thought we were al universally panning him |

It's hard to find any defenseman that isnt rough the first season or so. I liked his composure from the get-go.
Meanwhile, I think everyone here. 7 included, has players they tend to pick out. Barzal is on his craplist constantly as no one critiques him more often. Then there's SoRoKiN who he feels a need to proclaim 75% of the goals were 'high blocker' even though most were not but that's about establishing a narrative for future female doging
Everyone gets critical here. That's kinda what message boards are about...or so I thought |

Yeah, after further consideration, you may be right that Pelech started to improve in his final season under Weight. But he has really flourished under Trotz. |

I was a mayfield fan. Knew he would always be a bottom pairing defenseman but thought he was good for what he did when they both got signed to those value contracts. I didn’t think Pelech would pan out into the player he has. That didn’t age well |

Okay, stating the obvious. Well, he's nearly as pro Bailey as anyone is anti-Bailey - keaner17
I called for Barzal to score the game winning goal. Love the kid most exciting young player to wear the crest since JT.
When he plays like shat I say it. When he plays well I give him the credit as well.
That goes for every player on the team including Bailey.

My initial assessment of Pelech (that he wasn't very good) has made me wary about jumping to conclusions about d-men. So I still have hopes for Mayfield, albeit in a 3rd pairing role, because his contract is cheap enough, and he does bring more of a physical element to his game than the other d-men, now that Boychuk has effectively retired.
But yeah, some of his decision-making with the puck leaves me scratching my head. |

My recollection is that keaner was on his sabbatical, so even if he liked Pelech from the get go, he never told us. |

The point is not that you are incapable of appreciating/complimenting him but more so that we all have players we tend to be a bit more critical of. Naturally we all THINK we're being fair or accurate in our evals, but sometimes our critiques don't apoear as fair to others. I don't think anyone is without guilt in that regard |

I tend to be optimistic about dmen. I liked Mayfield coming out of college. Thought he was going to be a physical menace to opposing teams. |

Mayfield laid out Crosby pretty good yesterday. That was his best moment in the game imo. He’s just to indecisive with the puck and doesn’t commit to whatever decision he comes up with this season imo. He’s consistent for half assed clearing attempts and turning the puck over at either blue line. With that said he’s better then he’s playing and every game I hope it’s the game he snaps out of it. I guess every team needs a weakest link and unfortunately he’s it right now. Yeah, all defenseman for the most part mature later then forwards but you can see something that tells you they have potential.
Pelech was an absolute, indecisive, sieve out there his first couple of years. Keaner said he liked his game and saw his potential I’m not saying he’s lying but I don’t remember anyone liking him. I didn’t see anything that told me he would be what he is today. I am happy to admit I was incorrect in my thoughts on him. |

Everyone has a favorite player but in these forums whether it’s Twitter, Reddit, etc. the fan bias is off the charts and its exaggerated when the team losses to the point where all reason is out the window. Comical really. You can actually copy and paste every thread after the team losses and it’s pretty much the same BS. Starting with Leo on the first line, Bailey, Mayfield etc etc etc. |

Sullivan also with the last change places Crosby and Co against our 3rd pair when the opportunity presents itself. Leddy and Mayfield were out against that line a lot yesterday especially on defensive zone draws.
I thought Dobson struggled a bit in the game yesterday. This statement will open up the Girls Club firing squad |

I don't think anyone here can logically say Leo on our first line is a good thing. Some might claim it's necessary in light of our options, but anytime your first line has a checking line player cemented in the lineup, its going to get mentioned when that line fails to produce.
Bailey earns both praise and critique. He had a good game yesterday but also had a bad turnover that led directly to a goal. He frustrates people because they see what he COULD be, but are left with a seemingly pascifist approach in the ozone.
Mayfield has been terrible and caused TWO goals against yesterday. He's been bad and everyone knows it.
These three get brought up because the problems carry over from game to game.
Leo doesn't belong on a scoring line, Bailey isn't aggressive enough and Mayfield has been regularly bad. |

Leddy and Mayfield would constitute the 2nd pairing, correct? |
