I would not count on Toews returning. My bet is its a CTE related issue from repeat concussions. Dont be shocked if he medically retires this summer. - z1990z

Canucks are up 2-0 after 1 - HenryHockey
Same score at 2nd intermission. After watching the first 2 periods of this game, I am ok with the Flames losing two and getting the earlier pick, they need it more than we do. |

Hughs and Maker are elite skaters and elite OFF look at there off #'s 2 years in. Maker is .9pts per game hughes is .8. .4 is Adam. boquist has played 2 years but the only thing he has the borders elite is his shot. he is not a great skater for his size and does not look like he has the frame to get much bigger. I think he can be a good Off Dman but I have seen nothing that would make me think he could be eilte on the OFF side and he will at best will only be passable on D. Beudin and mitchell are OK. I just do not see anything elite about there physical or skill makeup. Most guys that end up elite you see something in them very quickly. I think they are all NHL players. - kmw4631
Makar is head and shoulders above any young defenceman in the NHL, including Hughes and Fox. His skating is exceptional and he can run a power play better than any other Dman in the league. But remember something - he is playing with forwards on the Avs who are thoroughbreds. Unlike Bovqist, who by comparison is trying to excel with Kane and ADB and a bunch of Clydesdales.
Mitchell is OK - what does that mean? He's miles from being a good NHL defenceman and belongs in Rockford under a good coach getting educated in the pro game. You bought Bowman's B.S. - graduating from the 30 game a year NCAA weekend league doesn't qualify him as an NHL ready Dman.

The concussion long term effect is what Toews likely is battling. This is the more logical guess, not cancer or something else. And this can only mean, he retires. Why would you risk another concussion if you have come to this point? The improving and hope he comes back is merely playing the positive cheerleader part since either Blackhawks and or Toews does not want to go public just yet!
If this is accurate, then as with Seabrook a Toews announcement should clear with the NHL and we can protect someone else beside Seabrook and, now Toews
A sad day in Blackhawk annals if, indeed, this "plays" out. Thanks to the earlier mention z1990z post credit goes to you for the analysis.

With a win, they jump LA and SJ. Win tomorrow, and they pass Ottawa too.
Anybody that says a pro athlete wouldn't give it their all just so the team gets a better draft pick just needs to watch these two games. |

Let's pray to the hockey lottery gods regardless.
We needed a 7-Skille, 3-Barker, 3-Toews and 1-Kane, only half of which helped us win a Cup or Three. |

Was cancer until I saw a more logical explanation.
Which I made clear
You weren't reading closely
But you muster out that response
So let that poster explain
Or research it
I just have to believe it is serious enough to need a long recovery and to say that you [Toews] are puzzled by what ails you.....whatever the prognosis and recovery plan, would you return to play hockey with his concussion history? |

I think it depends on whether or not Toews returns. Then there's Nylander returning and possibly Strome on the team still. If those 3 are in the lineup, Kurashev may not have a spot.
It gets muddier when factoring in the future of Kampf, Hagel, Gaudette, Hinostroza, and Suter as well as Carpenter and Connolly.
I wouldn't mind if Kurashev made the Hawks roster again but it's a matter of where he plays. If there's no spots, it doesn't hurt for him to play 1C in Rockford until there's an opening.
DeBrincat - Dach - Kane
Nylander - Toews - Kubalik
Suter - Strome - Hagel
Entwistle - Kampf - Hardman
Kurashev?
Possibilities: Carpenter, Connolly, Gaudette, Hinostroza - Theo Fox
How about an opening night roster of:
Nylander-Toews-Kubalik
Debrincat-Borgstrom-Kane
Reichel-Dach-Hagel
Suter-Enstwistle-Hardiman
Keith-Kalynuk
Stillman-Boqvist
Beaudin-Murphy
Fingers crossed on Toews being back....
Borgstrom being effective....
Reichel a super rookie......
Trade Strome or package him with a young D for a quality forward or D coming back...
Let Kampf walk as his "skill set" is not a need at this point of the retool...
Add a top 12 pick in this years draft.....
I can see sunlight at the end of the tunnel.....
Exhale.....

Until the next logical explanation. - boilermaker100
Well, I must admit it is the better of the two Toews theories espoused today. The "Johnny took his puck and went home" theory requires the team and the league to concoct a cover story that scares the crap out of the fans and requires the team to pay, rather than suspend a player who chose to go home because he didn't like the coach. Opting out for Covid-19 would've been a much cleaner approach if the underlying facts were true.
That said, the concussion theory is also full of holes.....
Odds are, it is Door #3, "Something Else". |

I would like to see Borgstrom and Reichel succeed too, but the overall team D has to improve at some point. Even if Toews is back to 75% of his old self and the new guys contribute, they are still a bubble team and will draft around 12 to 20 next year. That pick and this year's 12th pick will see the UC ice in about 3 or 4 years. |

Unless borgstrom and reichel show they are ready then yes pencil them in opening day if not. Start in rockford until further notice. |
