Where was your envy when everyone was making fun of Sakic and star players were asking for trades?
- NuckUp

? I don’t remember either of those situations. You got links?

Either way, Sakic has been GM since 2013/2014 season. In that time he’s built the avalanche back into a true cup contender. Five seasons making the playoffs (three DNQ).

Sakic had to learn on the job and has done far better than JB who is supposed to be a experienced executive. Just goes to show what a failure JB has been.

Long time reader but not too crazy about posting(esl).
So i will be moving to the island in july, i know some of you live on the island, my son is 6 years old and play hockey and i am looking for hockey program/power skating clinic for the summer or 2021/2022 hockey season.
I did a bit of research so i know about the victoria minor hockey and some other stuff but i want to hear from your experience.

- Yannick72

Hey Yannick, welcome!

My son has played minor (house) hockey since he was 6. He will be playing his final season this fall (fingers crossed).

We did try some extra lessons etc early on, but he never really excelled, so we allowed him to just go at his own pace instead.

Is this his first year of hockey? I was just thinking maybe give it a year to make sure he likes it before investing in extra training?

The climate here is great for year round activity, Soccer, Hockey in the fall/winter, baseball/lacrosse in the spring/summer plus tons of other options.

Having said that, there are some great personal coaches who do small group and one on one instruction.

Denise had a very good reputation here:

I’ve also worked with Rob, he’s really great with kids and most of the minor hockey associations hire him for extra on ice coaching.

Canucks are just as fast, skilled and big as these teams, just need to add some veteran depth and mature as a group.

Watching Colorado penalty kill is eye opening. Everybody pressures the puck carrier, busy sticks, blocking shots, etc. Everyone knows their roles in the system they deploy. Makar is a big part of that. Man I’m jealous.
- bloatedmosquito

Hughes should have still won the Calder. Did more on a lesser club.

Jesus you are pathetic. Makes me feel good to be a Canucks fan. The markstrom contract is top 5 worst in the league. Wtf is wrong with you?

I don’t know. After watching last night’s game, it proved to me that Makar has a larger toolbox than Hughes.

Makar is far better, he clearly deserved the Calder, anyone saying otherwise is a pathetic fanboy.

Makar is unreal to be sure. But he has had much better support in COL than Hughes had here his rookie year. Hughes did more with less IMO. But really Makar was quite deserving as well. Kid will be a stud for a decade.

Ya, Makar is the much better player overall. Especially poignant when the announcers were saying the past two season leaders in plus/minus were Makar's partners. Not that it's the best stat, but it shows a huge discrepancy between him and Hughes.

That said, I think Hughes can be the move dynamic offensive player of the two... Hughes just needs a better supporting cast and better system, which Makar already has.

It's all relative, better coach, structure, actual systems to play to.

I think Hughes could be a fantastic defenceman with the right coaching and structure.

And I'm not seeing how anyone can call Colorado soft, easily handled the blues last night.

I hate the avalanche but that game last night was fun to watch. Sakic has always been a class act and I’m happy he has found success as an executive after a HOF career.

Congrats to the avalanche too for grooming Sakic the way they did. Things could have gone terribly wrong during the Roy years/firing but they obviously had a plan and stuck with it. Tanking at the right time and solid drafting were obviously big factors as well.

If FA wants to be a hands on owner than he should be copying the avalanche road to success.

Yeah, I don’t get that one either. I don’t watch enough games to give an opinion but they sure didn’t look soft last night. Even their captain set the tone with his fight.

I know that Lordy would appreciate a captain that isn’t afraid to drop the gloves to show leadership.

Agreed, systems is a big part of it.

Hard to get into the "soft" debate when the team is question is just way quicker and puts more pressure on than the other team. They have a very Vegas-like feel to them, without the Reeves-like 4th line.

Welcome to the thread. We won’t hold your Ontario past against you.

Actually, that’s a lie. We will hold it against you any chance we get.

Yes, but Lordy has complained loudly that Bo doesn’t do that enough or at times when it’s needed. I agree somewhat, but I have no complaints about Bo’s physicality. Saying that, I sure would like to see the team have a bit more of that tenacity that the 2010 team had though.
