I just don't think anyone can convince me that he's going to take a minimum aav 1 year contract and he's going to outperform one of the kids in contribution. - Codes1087
Benning and the Sedins won't disrespect him like that, if he wants to return for another year or 2, he'll likely be offered a contract at similar AAV. |

Core of:
Pettersson (1C)
Boeser (1W)
Miller (1W or 2C)
Horvat (2C)
Hoglander (2W)
Podkolzin (2W? Maybe 1W?)
Hughes (Top PMD)
Demko (Workhorse stud 1G)
Just need to get some parts to round out the roster, a 3C and some reliable dmen. - Nucker101
That seems like the plan. Now let's hope the next GM can get it done.

I doubt they would be trying as hard as they are to get Alex his 100th, if he was going to be playing next season.
Alex has always been 1 to try avoid media etc, so I am almost certain tomorrow is his last nhl game. |

Yeah, that's a major problem. Feelings and friendships need to go out the door. This is a business, and should be handled like one. Edler needs to retire or find another place to play. Everyone wants the defense to change, hughes/schmidt/Myers are all back next year. Signing edler will bring back 4/6 of the same defense that we failed with this year. |

I agree. They are clearly all trying to set him up for his 100th. He looks tired. I think he's done after this year. I hope he's done anyway |

the players don't know either way, they're just trying to do it just in case, and probably because it's become a running joke all season long in the locker room. You really think that management has told the locker room that Edler is done here?
Benning recognizes his value and so do the Sedins, he'll be welcomed back if he wants to return, if he wants to go play for a contender in a warmer city down south, he can do that too. |

sure, something like that might work, give a bit on the AAV since Edler still plays a massive role on this team |

He's a good player, so is Hughes.
I think the fantasy is that they're more than they really are. Comparing EP to Matthews? Insanity.
I sure as hell hope my GM hits on some of his top 7 picks, especially when that's considered his strength. Then again, the title is GENERAL MANAGER not DRAFTING MANAGER so I expect more than a nice prospect every year when you're stuck at the bottom of the league standings. - golfingsince
lol you are a funny dude...
So for EP's first 32 games in the league since 1993 compared:
Yashin - 38 pts
OV - 38 points
Elias Pettersson - 36 points
McDavid - 34 points
S. Crosby - 34 points
E. malkin - 34 points
No that's not top 10 production at all pretty good company there
So the Matthews comparable isn't that far off. Pettersson with 66 points his rookie year Matthews with 69. Before Covid shut down Pettersson second season was on pace for an 80 point season and Matthews second season he had 63 points lol
Now Petey (3rd season) is shut down due to an injury 26 games into a 56 game sched and he's a bust? Come on man be smart.
Let's see what he can put up in an 82 game healthy schedule before declaring busts you think?

Chara is soo much better than edler and signed a 1 year 795k contract with a contending team.
Edler and chara aren't really comparable imo. Edler to me won't even be a good bottom pairing next year when competing against juolevi/chatfield/Rathbone. |

He has been a solid defenseman for this team, and their best defenseman for a decade, but he has lost a step that he couldn't afford to lose.
Hopefully they can find a defenseman that provides some of what Edler has provided over the years.

There is a code for that is followed in that regard, so there should be. |

Chara took less in Boston too, I wasn't comparing player to player , more so , each players value to their longtime franchises, Edler is still our best defensemen, he plays against all other top lines every game still. We need to find some help for him and put less pressure minutes on him |

This doesn't sound sincere. I take it you're still salty for being treated like the 2nd rate citizen you are. I tried to get you in the club Don but i'm beginning to regret it. |

if you truly believe that management tells the players who's staying or being let go during the season then I don't what else to tell you except that the tooth fairy isn't real. |
