I’d luv to do my own top 10 but it would change daily. Lol
Need vs BPA & as usual I’d want a trade down deal in JB’s back pocket. As much as ppl might disagree it more often than not can be the smart move if executed.
Honestly, they just need to make a rule saying you need to play/be on the roster for X percentage of games in the regular season before Y date(s) to be part of the playoffs (not including players in the AHL, and conditioning stints don't count). - NewYorkNuck
There are lots of rules they could input to stop such things happening. As of right now, there is no such rules. So currently shady, not "illegal"
I'm surprised a know it all like you isn't working for Sportsnet? - VanHockeyGuy
What I do know is that a man who's been around the league for 40 years like Benning as a player/scout/executive probably knows a thing or two about how things work in the NHL. To say he has no control is a ridiculous statement for a professional "journalist" to make. I bet he'd never say that about a Leafs GM.

So how long until Courtnall fires Benning, or did FA just hire him to make it look like he's doing something. Geoff may know something about running a hockey club he owns a gold mine in South America, kind of like owning a hockey team, oh yeah he also built houses so he knows how to build things. - A_SteamingLombardi
My guess is JB sticks til at least the draft. Then GC advises for more management above JB. Time to shed cap & use the leverage to take on good players teams cannot protect. 1-2 should be the goal. Rebuild the bottom 6 & not spend a ton to do it. Use JV as a sweetener in the e-draft if possible.

The goal should be to bring in personnel to hep JB, not replace him
He realizes that teams have to rebuild after the previous core reaches it's peak and starts to decline, right? - Nucker101
Would you still be this pissed to troll the Canucks if JB remained on in a VP role? Like one having autonomy over amateur scouting, AHL team, and player development?

I thought the NY Knicks turned things around this year and are playoff bound?
weird choice to use as an example, but honestly Aqualini is not selling the team and to pin hopes on that is setting yourself up for disappointment.
the realistic hope is that Aqua reflects on the current state of the team, hires some competent people around him and takes a step back to allow them to do their job.

JB has had 7 years, the team is the punchline of the NHL. Whether it's justified or not. The results simply don't justify anyone running out and buying tickets, do they?
Like Kevin Bieksa said; Teams are saying the Canucks are "fun to play against"
They need to put fans in the seats to stop the bleeding, you won't do that with a subpar product going into rebuild/retool year 8. Aquilini knows that. Spin that any way you like.

Finally, someone who can identify foundations and by extension foundational players.

I'm already at my maximum disappointment level with this team.

Especially given that the team will likely be competing just to be competitive. Save the $ for when you are actually competitive. - 1970vintage
I don't know about saving money per se, i still want the team to spend the cap and keep trying.
I just don't want to overcommit on term/dollars with older players.
