no way that Mango pie dude is actually 5'10", he's closer to 5'8"
Quinn Hughes towers over him - Nucker101
He might not be 5'10 but he's strong on his skates and not afraid to go to the net. He led the team in 5on5 goals...mostly because he doesn't mind taking some punishment.

He plays hard and I always notice him against the Nucks, I’m just talking poop.
While I understand and yes you make a good deal that involves tkachuck 7 days of the week for eichel the idea has often left a sour taste in my mouth due to everything else outside of points chucky has brought to this organization since he got here.
Also part of it has been because at least to me it feels like tkachuck still has room to grow into a point-per-game player. But what just came to me is that tkachuck is only just over a year younger than eichel so it’s not like we would be moving a 22 year old for a 27 year old. Also with tkachuck’s qualifying offer being 9 million we would only essentially be paying an extra 1 million for at minimum similar term.
So all that said as long as we could get JG to resign I would say I could be satisfied with moving tkachuck for eichel as long as we don’t give up too much extra on top of him.
I’ve always liked Backlund but he’s nearing the end, if it was me I’d expose him and hope Seattle bites. Don’t get me wrong he’s still a decent player but I think we have players that could replace him. - K-man25
Not necessarily against moving or exposing Backs but who do we have that could replace him today?

It depends what we have to give up to get Eichel. If its Lindholm, Dube, and a first why not? Flames have Pelletier and Zary coming up to fill in some holes.
Does Konecky wae this team a contender? I don't think so.
Flames desperately need a 1C and a 1D. They are not getting that by finishing 16th to 20th for the next 4 years. - DuranDuran
It absolutely depends on the cost for Eichel, and I think it will take more. I don’t think Buffalo can even chance losing this trade for all they did to get Jack in the first place. I think it’s closer to Lindholm and either JG or Chucky.
Assuming it’s Chucky, due to his contract control, you then need to extend JG to play with Eichel. If a reasonable extension isn’t agreed upon, you can’t make that trade to risk Johnny walking for nothing, and leaving our new #1 C with less to work with than he did with the Sabres.
And it would also depend on if one of the FA LW I mentioned earlier can be signed (Hall, Hoffman, etc) to get the depth needed back at LW.
This hypothetical scenario would give us a true #1 C, yes but with a significant increase in salary to do so. Considering the cap, and the expansion draft, this team doesn’t look like much of a contender in either situation. (All-in-for Eichel, or Retool via Konecny-type deals) Both have varying levels of risk as to the performance on the ice, but the situation I laid out arguably has more salary flexibility and cost certainty over the next few seasons.
Unless of course Valimaki, and as you mentioned, Pelletier and Zary step in and contribute right away....
I agree with you tho, the Flames only get a legit #1 C by either making a franchise altering trade, or getting out of that no mans land of 16-20th overall.

I could honestly feel comfortable with Ryan returning at 3C. He’s fast, 2nd best two way player on the team behind backs IMO and also has more offence in his game than most give him credit for. He may not be the best option but with ruzicka/zary potentially playing that spot two years from now he would be a good stop gap option for cheap
Disagree. The Flames haven’t had a top end center since Joe. You desperately need one to win in the playoffs. If you were able to get Eichel and resign Johnny, you’d have a pretty good pair for a #1 line. Not sure who’d you have to give up but after this season there aren’t many untouchables on this team. - K-man25
Would not be suprised if Tavares does not play another game. That's some scary poop. - DuranDuran
Scary indeed. Just a huge accidental impact. Was so relieved to see the thumbs up from the stretcher. Seriously though, I'm not a huge Perry fan but Foligno calling him out and him answering the bell turned the tide of the game for the Habs. There's no way that was intentional.

Yeah, I still don't understand the Foligno demand for a fight afterwards. The guy admitted in his post game that he hadn't seen the hit on a replay even. Basically said that because Tavares got hurt, Perry had to fight. Dumbest fight I've seen in a long time.
I have detested Perry throughout his career (for the same reasons I love Chucky) and you could see that he just wasn't in that fight, took a bunch of punches and let Foligno feel good about himself.
Not advocating for fights to be out of the game, but when you feel the need to fight someone over an accident, poop is broken. What's next, fight a guy because he unintentionally hit your teammate with a shot?

I was quite disgusted by the fight myself but that’s also after having the luxury of seeing the replay 50 times. The players either only saw it live or didn’t see it at all, but they new one thing and that was perry was involved which we should know better than most that those types of players don’t get the benefit of the doubt.
There’s also another way of looking at it as well. The code is all about an eye-for-an-eye something that doesn’t make sense in this case, what I could get behind is that “intentional or not, our captain is out and I’m going to send a message that we’re not going to fold and go away quietly”. So less about trying to even the score and more about proving to both the habs and themselves they could push past it.
While I think it was more or less the first situation there’s a positive PR spin here for the leafs if the moment arises to make a comment on it.

You make some good points with the cap and the supporting cast. A trade for Eichel that guts the team doesn't bode well for the future as you stated. And, I don't see a true #1 C candidate in this years crop of draftees. That's the issue and that's why a trade is what will likely need to happen.
Outside Eichel, is there another centreman that would even be a possibility of coming here, assuming a trade could be made?

THAT was not a code situation though. Had Perry stood back and giggled, yep, destroy him but he went over when Tavares was being carried off to say, whatever he said. His presser was pretty clear, he tried to get out of the way, jumped to avoid it and knows 'John' well...
I agree that the game changed in the Habs favor after the fight, I suspect some of the Leafs were probably in 'wtf, why fight man?' mode. Losing your captain like that is tough but the fight deflated an already emotionally flat team (IMO).

I dunno man, they had something like 15 minutes between when he got hit and when the game resumed, and in all that time, not one coach or player pulled out a tablet to see what happened? Seems highly suspect to me.
I get the "eye for an eye" mentality of getting back into the game, but going after Perry was just not the way to do it in my opinion. Everything else I've seen around the rest of Foligno's night is that he was invisible. Dude did nothing to help that team actually compete in the game.

The Leafs will be up for game 2.

I agree it was definitely not a code situation and if I was the leafs I would go about it by coming out next shift hard hitting, 110% effort, and hemming the habs in their own zone over what foligno did.
I’m just saying foligno may and I’m sure many leafs misread it as a code situation at worst and at best wether it worked or not it’s a guy trying to light a spark for his team which considering that’s part of what he was brought in to do you can’t blame a guy for trying.
*albeit that if you’re trying to light a spark sending a 2nd liner to fight the guy that just accidentally ended JT’s season is ill-advised and should have been like Simmonds and whoever Montreal has on their 4th line
