oh I agree with you on that point, but the need to have a McDavid or a Matthews to win the cup... nope.
you need a well balanced team, depth at center yes, a good goalie, a bit of luck... beside PIT, not many Cup champions had a superstar C. - fidopro
Ok. But even short of superstar, as I'd said there are levels. The Habs don't have a Bergeron but they also don't have a Krejci. The Habs don't have a Crosby or a Malkin. The Habs don't have a Kopitar and still somewhat on the rails Richards and Carter. The Habs don't have a Backstrom or Kuznetsov. They don't have a Point or Stamkos (I know but still).
Outside of St. Louis it's been a while since a team without at least one C on the upper levels won, and STL had O'Reilly at least |

agreed. Habs would have a much better chance if Suzuki and kk were 25, assuming all the others don't age.

I guess I like prime Toews and Bergeron more than you but fair point. I'd still argue that none of the Habs "C's are or are likely to be Toews or Bergeron, Suzuki with an outside chance. Hope I'm wrong - Takemedrunkimhome
Give Suzuki a couple years I am confident he will become very close to Bergeron or Toews. I do think we do need another centre for 2C as I don’t think KK is the solution at least not now

I meant on some of the player valuations and levels stuff but yeah, I think everybody wants a star C. My simple point was it would likely be stupid ugly expensive and that I accept that and would be willing to pay it assuming doctors and insurance sign off |

Suzuki may have it in him. By Suzuki's age Toews had an insane resume already |

I know the specific Tims in question. There's nothing else for a stretch and they act like they're aware of that fact |

Toews started in the NHL at 19 and he played with Kane, not sure who was on his other side at that time, Patrick Sharp ? |

But there are ones who share a block with 3 other tims and it seems they're in an agreement to be bad |

Those Chicago teams were stupid good. And Toews was their captain, won the Conn Smythe for them on the first Cup with 29 points in 22 games at age 21. I think people forget how good he was early on
Edit: he turned 22 in the playoffs that year |

I love those corners. Canada loves Tim's enough to support one every (frank)ing 150 feet but damned if I'll turn left for that poop |

Well that's the thing.
So many great players were not even in the NHL at 20 years old.
But we're here predicting KK will amount to a third line centre because he's having a rough time since Staal showed up.
KK will be great, trading him while he costs nothing would be a mistake.
Habs need to focus on the big picture: Win when KK, Suzuki, Caufield, Harris, Guhle, Primeau, Poehling, Norlinder, etc. are the ones considered the core of this team.
Just like they came close with the Subban, Price, Pacioretty, Markov core in 2014.
