They also did a full rebuild unlike the reset that MB has been doing for the past many years - habs88888
hein!
oh, you mean prior to win their 1st cup? yeah, they sucked for 2 decades |

Don't get me wrong, I really like Suzuki. Hell I like Kotkaniemi and think he'll be a fine player.
Suzuki scored at just under a 22 goal and just over a 60 point pace as a 21 year old this season. As a Habs fan it's the most excited I've been for a young C in forever. I also wouldn't think twice to include him in a trade if needed for a clear and obvious upgrade at the position |

the thing is, teams need good young players on entry level contracts. that's a key.

Ok. But even short of superstar, as I'd said there are levels. The Habs don't have a Bergeron but they also don't have a Krejci. The Habs don't have a Crosby or a Malkin. The Habs don't have a Kopitar and still somewhat on the rails Richards and Carter. The Habs don't have a Backstrom or Kuznetsov. They don't have a Point or Stamkos (I know but still).
Outside of St. Louis it's been a while since a team without at least one C on the upper levels won, and STL had O'Reilly at least - Takemedrunkimhome
and i disagree about O'Reilly. his career offensive numbers rival JT's and pre-Marchand-going-off Bergeron and he's always been one of the best defensively. and that Cup season he put up nearly 80 points.
true story--last Hab center to put up 80 points was Pierre Turgeon in 1996.

KK should have played another year in Laval but too late now |

Kotkaniemi's ELC ends after this season. Suzuki's the next. Caufield's the one after. I guess that means the Habs window is now? |

I like O'Reilly, just think he's not a top level guy. I'd have a guy who plays his game on my team any time I can |

KK is going to get a bridge deal.
But I wouldn't hate the idea of signing long term at like 3.5-4M per. Gambling on him being worth way more down the line.

I'm interested to see how they play. The old "this team is built for playoff hockey" is about to be tested |

There's only one way to get one of those.
And it's to gamble on a player you truly believe in.
Is KK that guy for the Habs? They did like him enough to draft him 3rd overall after all. |

yep.
but you first need to make the playoffs! they did last year because of covid, this year because of covid... what will happen next year? |

you think they believe in kk enough to give him a long term contract? Gally was a no brainer.

To get to your earlier question would you do Suzuki, CC, Romanov and Drouin to balance the money a bit for Eichel?
I think that s what Buffalo might ask for in an in division trade and I'd say (frank) off. Too much trade value imo to take on 10 million for an injured player. I'm content to see how Suzuki develops.

supposedly we're getting a second tim's in scenic, historic, pretty poopty cinnaminson, nj.
but i'll believe that when i see the one they've been threatening us with in stratford, nj for a couple years without an ounce of cement being poured yet. |

Assuming they go back to the Atlantic? They should be better than Buffalo and Detroit (although Detroit swept them last season), Ottawa will be improved most likely, Toronto, Florida, Boston and Tampa are all likely to remain strong (although Boston is getting old at some key spots).
So likely not great |
