Not an elite player/difference maker? Wut. He was over ppg in the two seasons prior to this one in that dumpster fire organization. Lol who do you consider elite? - apex123
This seems to be a lax different definition of the term "Elite". Generally speaking, a powerplay specialist is not considered an Elite player.
To be considered Elite, a forward must be multifaceted and able to excel at multiple aspects of the game. Any Elite player has the gifts to lead their franchise out of the cellar. Without a doubt, Eichel is a highly valuable asset and gifted player. With a bit of coaching he may yet develop into an Elite level player, but he has not shown it yet.
Even the Sabres are aware of his limitations. This is why they foolishly decided to sign Staal in the off-season. They wanted him for high-risk defensive zone coverage where Eichel has not been reliable. |

He had a bad year this year for hime but the year prior Eichel was a top 5 player in the league. He can be dominant. He's big, can skate, is competitive and not afraid of contact.
It would be worth giving up a good young player like Suzuki and more to get him, if he has his head on straight |

Are you talking about generational talent vs elite?
Active NHL players:
To me generational talents are: Crosby, McDavid, maybe Matthews
Elite: Malkin, Marner, Draisaitl, Stamkos, Kucherov etc. Eichel maybe on the cusp to elite

I agree 100%. These, and many others, are elite level players.
Eichel is on the cusp, but hasn't developed into an elite player yet.
I find the real questions are: Does he want to come to Montreal, can a favourable deal be found, and do the Habs have the ability to coach and motivate him to become an elite player? |

With MB this deal is not happening, unless there is a new GM

Not according to the pro scout, he can't carry his team out of the cellar so he's just good. |

Well his offensive abilities are certainly in the upper echelon of elite, you can't argue that. If you want to say he sucks otherwise I have no interest of banging my head into a wall arguing with you. |

I have doubts Marner would be called elite if he wasnt playing with Matthews. If I was building a team right now I'd take Eichel over Stamkos as well.

Maybe it’s the other way around with Matthews lol
There are a lot of guys that I don’t have on this list, Ovechkin, MacKinnon, Rantanen being in the elite as well amongst others, too many to name
Definitely want to build the team around elite healthy players |

Marner would still be very good on his own, but I think playing with Matthews makes him look a bit better. Matthews' release is so deadly he could probably still be elite playing with Byron and Armia (hyperbole but still). No debate with the rest of the names. They're all absolutely elite. Colorado is my pick to win both because they should be the most hungry and the MacKinnon line has to be the best line in the NHL. |
